Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

OK, I hate to sound like a "me too!" kind of guy, so I have been searching (everywhere, mind you) for a couple of weeks for this infamous 3.4.805 upgrade for my v2 2000. It has got to be one of the best kept secrets on the internet :)

I had almost consider purchasing a damn support agreement from Adaptec to get v4, but 200 bucks to upgrade a device worth about $50 seems insane to me. (Note to self: Maybe I can take it to work, use it on the company network, and write-off the maintenance agreement cost as a business expense on my income tax!?!?)

Any help would be appreciated, want to get 48bit LBA support on this 2000 and possibly a 1000 I have.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

I have all the software for 3.4.803 which allows upto 137Gb but have had no joy finding 805- even tried guessing the file name to download off the ftp server (ftp://ftp.adaptec.com/anon.adaptec/e..._storage/snap/) but no luck

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

One more "me too" guy for the pile. Have a 12000 that I put larger hard drives in only to find 3.4.790 doesn't support over 137. Could use either 3.4.805 or 4.xx if some one can send it to me. I will fight with the Adaptec prirates later. Thanks

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Well guys, scratch me from the "me too" list, I broke down and bought a maintenance agreement. I listed a server I'm going to use at work, so I'm going to try and write it off on my taxes, but at least I have the full version of 4.0.860 now, and I acquired it legally.

Now if I can just keep myself from not using it on my other servers (LOL).

Another me too.

I have a Snap 4000. Software 3.4.803 (US) Hardware 2.0.1 BIOS 2.0.282

Do I knock myself out to go to .805 or can I jump to 4.x? Can someone send me 4.x? I am massaging Google to find it with little luck.

I am going to upgrade the drives in the near future from the original 40gb ones to the 400 range.

Thanks!

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Either version will work. Recommend bumping the ram if you install larger drives and plan on use the JVM. It is PC100/133 DIMM chip, need a min of 128, recommend 256.

Unless you are gonna use MS AD, you don't need to go to 4.xx OS. Also, you may want to go read the other thread we have going about hard drives size and power requirements with the 4000.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Thanks for the update. I'll stick with what I have (OS wise) and not make myself crazy.

I would still upgrade to the 3.4.805 OS, but watch those drive sizes; I would hate to see you buy a bunch of expensive drives only to find it is too much for the power supply and/or hitting a sector limit barrier or something. Drop me an e-mail.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Hi there,
new user to the Snap here.

Just acquired a Snap 1000 box and having some problems recognising larger disks.
Is the 3.x software still available from anywhere? I understand 4.x costs some serious amount of money from what I can find.
I have just done an upgrade from the standard drive (big thanks to those who wrote up the Wiki articles) but it doesnt seem to want to play with my 160GB Samsung drive. Its working after a fashion but will only let me in to the debug screens.
This shows that the disk is around 136GB so I am thinking I have hit a limit somewhere.
The information from the info screens reads:
Hardware 3.1.1
Bios 2.1.364
OS 2.3.417

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

It has been recently rumored that one can find full ver 4.0.860 at:

ftp://ftp. - wait, I can't post that, Joe will get in trouble.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

OK here's another "me too" post
I've been trying to get the 3.4.805 update with no success anywhere, although I've seen it referred to about 200 times in this thread, I'm still no wiser as to how to actually get it.
Can someone please enlighten me, or better still send me a url/link/email with the file.
Thanks in advance, and BTW this is an excellent site for Snap server information and I appreciate the quality and depth of the content that's posted here.

Also interested in 3.4.805 or newer, I'm about to pickup a 4000 to play around with. mklukas@gmail.com :D these things look like great little machines.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

I also could use 3.4.805 or newer, I've got a 4000 that won't play nice with big drives, but this site is the greatest when it comes to information on these things

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Is there any chance that the OS for the 2200, is on the board rather than on the Hard Drives. I some how screwed up the hard drives on my new 2200 320 gb while trying to restore my older 2200 240 gb server. I mixed up the disks and apparently lost the OS, because my new server will not boot with either drive in Top position. How can I get this 2200 360 gb snap back up and running.

blue68f100 08-22-2006 09:33 PM

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

NO !!!!

I hope you didn't have anything on them you needed. :bawling:

That seams to be a common problem with novice using dd. If you were to open my units up you would find that all are labled with date installed and position. I do it will all pc's. So if I have a drive problem I know pretty quick if it's in warranty.

Your only option would be to use a image file. Apparently you were not in RAID 1.

Do you know what version of the OS you were at?

At least one was 3.4.805 and greater to support 160gig drives.

It should be Mandatory for all multiple drive snaps to run be in redundcy, Raid 1 or 5.

I have been looking for the elusive 3.4.805 OS. I have a 4100 with 4 120gb seagate drives and would like to upgrade to 4 250gb seagates. My unit has software 3.4.803 hardware 2.2.1 and firmware 2.4.437. Would someone please email it to me or send a link.

Won't help. The 4100's are stuck at the 137GB barrier. :(

Could anyone mail me the Snap OS 3.4.085 image, so I can install my repaired snap server 1100 again ? The harddisk failed and I cant resurrect it without the snap os image file.

Thanks.

mail to: mattijs@leliveld.nl

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

There is no 3.4.085 image file. I think there is a 3.4.??? floating around.

The 1100 have been a little odd when it comes to reloading from img files. Some work with a 1000 img file. While others want a 2200 image file. So if you have another snap laying around. Try it it may work.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Ya know Dave, while you are at it with all these 1x00 models, I have one of those also. I spend so much time with my 4000 I do not pay much attention to my 1000. So, what can ya tell me about this beats (you know all the basic questions)?

Model ____ 1000 series
Software _ 3.4.805 (US)
Hardware _ 3.1.1
BIOS _____ 2.1.364

Thanks man... ;)
