Holy crap Joe, you're a friggin' ANIMAL! It's sweet that you're throwing all those computers on for us!

Hehehe well if my script tests go good... that could be right around the corner... how about 600 - 700 workstations folding for a weekend ;) ( no I am not that ballsy... more than likely 100 isnt that far away)

Got to thinking. I might decide not to stick with amdmb depending on how things go there.

So I am going to have to put a time limit on this. Being the new protein is coming out today (right now in fact) I will give you untill this protein is done and the next one comes out. If you pass AMDMB by the end of the new protein that is coming out today I will move all my points under the jaydee116 account to here where they will stay. I also will continue to cruch under that account through out this protein.

That should give you around a month being this new one will be a little slower.

Joe 09-03-2003 12:53 PM

WTF, first you say something then you back off?! HA....

:)

Your points will be ours soon enough :) if everythign rocks with these 34 machines, there will be much more action coming.. my goal is to get to 500,000 an hour :) 2x my current peak. which with 34 - 40 machines should be do-able.

Groth 09-03-2003 01:01 PM

You're gonna need to round up more machines to hit 500K per hour. Before the DF server went into maintenance mode again, I got a copy of the new protein - 78 residues. So, this one's gonna be about half as fast as the last one.

Between the busy server and the slower protein, it's probably best to run off-line until late tonight or tomorrow morning.

Edit: spelling

Yeah like that never happens around here eh?... I can remeber just about every review is promised to be posted on a certain date only for it to be "put off" for a bit longer (weeks sometimes)... Don't even try to pull that moral shit. ;) And where are all these other sites you promised out on the 1st? I see one... :p

This is set in stone now though. You will get my points if you pass amdmb by the end of protein 78.

Cova 09-03-2003 02:19 PM

Joe - post that script up or PM or e-mail it to me and I'll see if I can't get a few million folds extra for the team. I admin a whole pile of development servers where I work that just sit idle on weekends and non-work hours.

The others maybe arent for your consumption ... think of that? Also the fact I am workign with a team of others on my other projects means I get to wait on them.

Also not comign through on commitments is different than having no backbone and retracting statements :) I never retract them, I just dont follow through ;)

Well unfortunately I am using much stuff thats very specific to my networks design, and also some additional tools we use for deployment ( such as GPO's in AD, and a large BAT file setup we built ( usign bat files as seriously as SMS ;) hehe)

Really all I did was coppied all the files onto each machine durring the day in a specific folder. Then from a AT command at a certain time I have it call one of 2 bat files to install/start the service, and then the other to stop and uninstall it.

the batfiles look like such:

to install: (startup.bat)
have it CD to the dir, the /install NEEDS to run from the main dir you cant just run it "C:\dir\foldtrajlite /install" that doesnt work, because the service fails to start abotu 50% of the time then.

it should look like:
Code:

c:
cd \dir\
foldtrajlite /install
net start foldtrajliteservice

I aso havea foldtrajlite /remove at the beginign to make sure its not installed prior to trying to install it again.

the stop one is simple, this one you dont need do go to teh dir to run so it looks like this:
stopit.bat
Code:

net stop foldtrajliteservice
c:\dir\foltrajlite /remove

I have them AT'd to run those scriptsm Startup.bat at 5:30PM, and Stopit.bat at 7:30AM.

if that doesnt make sense, then you prolly shouldnt be trying to sneak it onto your network. Also.. this is a point of warning!! If the service fails or unloads it DOES register in the eventlog, if you have nazi admins, they WILL be able to tell this has been run.. so dont do anything stupid.

Blackeagle 09-03-2003 03:46 PM

I'd like to mention that I see Lee & Sence87 are now folding for this team.

Welcome to you both, and thanks for helping!:D

Joe 09-03-2003 05:08 PM

Unleashing all 34 rigs tonight. we are about to be passed by PRGI or something... that cant stand... just wait till they see the power of this fully operational battle station ;)

alrealy pondering getting to 50 - 60 machines for the weekend. this script works slick as all hell.

Cova 09-03-2003 05:56 PM

I don't have to worry about any nazi-admins on the dev servers - if anyone is a nazi-admin around here it's me :) I built a few little batch files based on a few things in this thread and just started up 4 clients running them on our two test servers (each a dual 2.8) If things go well I'll start spreading it to more boxes. By the weekend if you stay at 34 machines Joe I might be able to match your output (during non-business hours).

And while I'm thinking about it - has anyone tested whether it's faster to run one instance or two on a HT'd CPU?

Joe 09-04-2003 12:14 AM

my 34 machines are getting a slow start, I think the new Protein screwed with them. since my distro in the morning was all the old stuff, they had to go download the new stuff before they could start running. by morning I expect to see some cool numbers :)

Joe 09-04-2003 08:58 AM

The new protien is much slower than the old one, seems lmy 2.6 Mil last night was on the high end of most of teams we are going against.

Joe 09-04-2003 11:07 AM

Wow
what a battle
Between us, PGRI, and Sneakers...

PGRI passed us last night and now thismornign with Groths massive upload we passed them back and are about to pass sneakers.

I fired up a small batch of machines (10) to aid in us keeping the spot from PGRI.

Time per generation (except for generation 0) is roughly proprotional to the square of the number of residues. Just as going from a 96 to a 56 residue protein quadrupled output, moving from 56 to 78 has halved it.

Closing a 48 million point gap with this protein is gonna be harder than hell.

Joe 09-04-2003 11:17 AM

Nah

Just means I need to get more machines, and overpower them... we are already out folding most teams up to 7th place.

Groth 09-04-2003 11:25 AM

Yer an animal, Joe! BTW, some of the people over at amdmb are talking about buying more folding machines - we've scared 'em.

Well here is the thread I started over there about it: http://www.amdforums.com/showthread....hreadid=254150

It has been up for almost 24hr's now and has a whole 59 views. That site averages 270 people and hour browsing the forums and over 55,000 members total. Little unimpressed by the responses. You might be getting my points back even if you don't pass us by the end of 78.

I am going to attempt a little recruiting in the general forum over there and hope I can at least make it interesting. :D

rock the hell on :) its good to see the fear ;)

Joe 09-04-2003 12:44 PM

50 Machines are on tap for tonight.

Thats with around 20 Dell 2.6Ghz ( just found out they were 2.6 not 2.8's P4c's) and the rest are 2.53Ghz IBM P4's

satanicoo 09-04-2003 01:26 PM

Joe, where you kiding when you said you could have up to 700 machines doing this?

I have been folding with a single computer.
I made him upload today.
The problem is: only uploaded about half the job he has done, and the rest it gives this error:

"ERROR: [000.000] {foldtrajlite2.c, line 4539} Warning during upload: STATUS 910 MISSING PREVIOUS OR ILLEGAL GENERATION"

as stated in the error.log!

Any idea?
