The other CD is a Symantec Solutions CD which consists of PowerQuest DataKeeper and V2i Protector. I assume this is because the OS comes preloaded on the server. I checked Adaptec's website and the Snap OS for the 4100 doesn't have the "buy" button next to it. So I guess I can't purchase it. |

So if you could buy one for one of those, you can do it. Depends if you have to enter a serial Can't you buy a service agreement or something that will let you have it? |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Sales wants to sell me a maint agreement which includes the OS. I don't want the maint agreement, just the OS.
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Just keep bothering them, they will eventually sell you just the OS. Persistence is next to godliness...or something like that.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Basically they are selling the maintenance and the software is free. Yet, they won't tell me where to download it without paying for the maintenance. This is from their sales. I hate when companies pull that crap.

If you like that, you will love this. I need to get a part (a front Bezel for a 4500). When I call them, their sales and customer service say I need to talk to tech support. But tech support won't talk to me unless I have a TSID, and it appears I cannot get a TSID without paying them. So in other words, just to find out if they have one, how much it is, and if I can buy it, I have to pay them? You gotta love that crap. |

At any rate, I have the full version of Snap OS 4.0.860 courtesy of another location within my company. Poor saps, they paid for it. LOL :p Now I just need to find a license code for S2S. You can download S2S from Adaptec but they no longer sell licenses for it. One sales rep actually suggested buying a new snap server and using the software from it. I think they've gone loco over there. jaylweb@gmail.com |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
I'm having trouble with a resurrected unit running an old OS version, 3.1.618, and was hoping someone could help me out with some information on getting a later version of the software, perhaps the free 3.4 version or a later 4.something version. If you have any info, you could email me, that would be terrific.
The trouble I'm having is with the NFS share not being writable by anyone even though the share says everyone should have full access. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
The v3 OS required a reboot for some of the access rights to take. Then if you used the feature to apply to subfolder and files, it took a while depending on the number.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
And when all else fails, "factory reset" and start over.
(happens to me a lot since I am a hardware guy, not a networking guy) |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
If you have a v1 (bios v1.x, Meridian) no support for LBA 48bit.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
I have BIOS 2.0.282 and "Platform Bytes 2.0.0". I assume this is the hardware version 2.0.
Another question. When I execute the command "info version", it displays: Product: 0 - "Minnie: 2 drive IDE" Has anybody ever had success in changing the BIOS entries to enable different mode, like changing it to a 4 drive model? Thanks |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Hi everyone!
I'm new here but have been reading about snap upgrades since last year. We currently have a snap 1000 server loaded with 30 gb and are thinking of changing the drive to a 250 gb one. Our current specs are: Software - 2.3.417 (US) Hardware - 3.1.1 BIOS - 2.1.364Been looking for the os upgrades but have not been successful. Perhaps you guys can help me out? Could someone email me instructions on how to get the latest free version? You can contact me through zapity at gmail dot com. We would really appreciate it if someone could help us. Thanks in advance. :D |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
I have 2 snap 2200's. One has 3.4.805 and the other is 3.4.803. I'm trying to get large disk support for the older OS. Since the file to upgrade does not appear to exist any longer I was wondering if I could DD the 805 and and then just write it to the 803 ? Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Want work, the OS is in flashram. Need the SUP file for a 2000.
wait the os is stored on the HD on a 2200, use dd to transfer. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Thanks for the quick response. Guess I'll have to keep searching for the sup file.
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Oops. The 2200 has the os located on the HD. So it is possiable to transfer the OS files using DD. All data will be lost. But you still need to reolad the os to replace any help files that may be missing.
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Not too concerned with help files. Is that the only reason to reload the OS after using DD ? As for data, the drives are clean so that is not a issue.
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Using DD we really do not kow what is missing if any thing. But we have had reports that some help files were missing. Just precautionary. Or copy the whold drive but that takes way too long.
An easier way is to move one of the 805 drives over to the 803 - 2200 (master), remove both 803's. As long has it is in the master (Top) position it should boot from it. Then I would wipe the mbr on the older 803's and reinstall, and let the snap do the setup. Should not loose any thing this way. The FAQ's has prcedures for doing this. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Looks like the OS for the 2200 is on the chip after all. I'll have to track down a sup file. Anyone point me in the right direction ?
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
No it's on the HD. Need to setup the 805 unit in raid 1. This way it will boot off either drive. Then move it over. Long as the drive is in the master position it will boot.
The 2000 models are stored in flashram. |
