Cathar man that is one really REALLY cool photo! Now looking at that pic, it's easy to see why they have such great air flow.
I have to do some looking at some automotive sites & parts stores. Would be interesting as all he[[ to see how one like that compares with the 2-342. Pauldenton, Yeah, Cathar said much the same. Have to rethink that. |
Its a great system; it takes the anomity away from people so theres less morons floating around too; OCAU is a VERY good forum to be registered to. I only get thread subscriptions, havent ever had anything else.
I agree with Cathar, i expected heatercores to be similar in the states. I have two cores that look (more) similar to a US style core, but i have 3 'typical' cores that are much more like the one cathar posted; an 88 camry core, a honda civic core (fits 2x92mm well; nice size) and another core from a honda prelude that fits 4x80mm (obviously i dont use it that way ;)) |
nor I, for some 3+yrs

I am putting together a rather rediculous system, that is beside the point but the fans I am using were chosen for a few reasons; they have very decent pressure, are tolerable at 12v and will be (are) on a fan controller. Want all out performance? Crank em at 12v or, turn them down to 7V for nice an quiet. You can have your cake and eat it too. The P/Q for the fans I have are here: http://sanyodb.colle.co.jp/product_d...master_id=1140
I got 6 for $29 shipped, hell of a deal if you ask me. If interested email this seller, he always has these fans and lists them periodically but if you email him, you can get as many as you need. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW |
Black,
I was recently sparked onto a search for a thinner rad by some comments in another thread and I am looking at a heatercore from a 2001 olds aurora. My only concern is that they seem a little thick in the fins dept which is gonna be murder on my fgl's but I am sure you guys are gonna be using something more powerful anyways. http://go.delphi.com/intranet/home/i...DS|vID=HC20006 http://catservices.wrencheadpro.com/...D/15-60143.gif and as for single pass there is always my ghetto method of drill a hole on the bottom tank, add a barb and viola instant single pass hc. Worked wonderfully with my caprice core!!!! BTW, on a side note, I had a 1c temp diff between my fgl's and Sunon KD1212PTB1-6AF (of course we are only talking a temp probe but hey). And being the psycho that I am when it comes to silence, nothing compares to the quiet of the fgl's (have'nt tried the panaflos yet though). |
I think I found Cathars Big Arse
http://webbase.transpro.com/catalog.php?partnum=398348 Only prob is that we are talkin $110 from autozone |
Would like components for which there is data:
Thermochill Radiator - both the HE 120.1 and the HE 120.2 - Bill's data. Delta(1212VHE) and Papst(4312L) Fans - same as Bill used. Swiftech6002 and "Dtek Whitewater" - P/Q curves and both Die-Sim and CPU results available* - different C/W dependence on Flow-rate. The object would be to see how well simulations can represent the system Maybe use 1/2"ID and vary coolant flow-rate on the combinations of these set-ups. Then use 6mm ID(can improvise the adapters) for a couple of example set-ups * If Bill's "Little River WW" data is acceptable as representative of "Dtek WW" |

Will have to look into that. Thanks! |

Just did a scan on that database, this is the Big Arse:
http://webbase.transpro.com/catalog.php?partnum=398294 Still seems too thick - unless they're including the tank flanges in that thickness... |

hmm if $110US isn't high enough to deter you, then i suspect that importing them from Oz might be viable ... |
The only way I've found in personal fiddling to get around the "quiet fans = poor performance" problem is to add a second low resistance radiator. 2 of the 2-342s isn't a bad plan. But where to fit it then? I use an external box but not sure if that will fly here

Seems to me that perhaps that core I linked to is a double thickness core. The core facial dimensions are spot on, but the thickness is twice as thick. Quite possibly made by a different factory for the USA cars, and probably quite a different sort of core design. Would be nice to see an actual picture. |
Incidentally http://www.radiatorexpress.com/ has either of those cores for ~$65US
