Dammit I cannot keep up with the Swiftech product line. Every time I get moderately serious about doing a complete kit test, they replace the pump or the fill method or the wb or the radiator. This looks like a nice little product though.

BillA 04-12-2005 12:54 PM

when you get to system testing, . . . .
tell me and I'll update your kit(s)

you should know the MCP350 is a bit different too, a silent upgrade has occured
I'll post the official Laing data shortly (in a new thread) so those maintaining comparative pump curves can use the current specs

don't bother testing the MCP650, guess why ?
but my lips are sealed, for the moment

1) does your res have a vent hole in the cap threads ?

Oops! I thought that the design was similar enough to your reservoir that the problems would be shared. I don't want you to have to comment too much on other company's products. Usually, that doesn't help and just makes everyone testy. It may be entertaining, though.

In particular, the vent hole was done (I thought) to prevent pressure buildup in the reservoir as you screwed the cap down. If so, it wouldn't help with the problem I was describing. It would help prevent air being trapped in the reservoir portion that is under the cap (not the portion of the reservoir that is both higher and not under the fill cap).

Thanks for your response.

BillA 04-12-2005 01:45 PM

no, the vent was to PRECLUDE the symptoms you described (higher fill = less noise and longer maint period)

the res as mfgd was identical, Swiftech added the vent hole (because we like to be better, lol)

My guess is they're replacing it with a 1/2 inch version of the mcp350, similar to the mods people are doing. Being that its smaller, quieter, has a rpm sensor, and seems to have the same high flow rate as the mcp650 when modded, would make it a better choice.

To be honest ALL versions of the CoolingWorks bay reservoir have been manufactured with the vent since January;)

Nice job Bill

well, the MDG-M2S115S8 is my choice - but there is resistance

RaptorRaider 04-13-2005 09:26 AM

What are the specs of that pump?
Max flow of 14L/min, 20W consumption and what's the head?

BillA 04-13-2005 09:36 AM

2.4 lpm, 3 kgf/cm², 20W
kinda big, kinda heavy, kinda noisy, really expensive
a true enthusiast's choice, eh ?

RaptorRaider 04-13-2005 09:51 AM

Another great pump I'd love to test. :D

BillA 04-13-2005 09:59 AM

think I can float a group buy @ ~$650 ea ?
j/k eh ?

RaptorRaider 04-13-2005 10:26 AM

$650 is a lot, however a true enthousiast wouldn't wouldn't be stopped by this. ;)

BTW googling for anything similar to 'MDG-M2S115S8' doesn't give me any results; is this pump similar to the MDG-M2S6B220?

I didn't spell it wrong.
The word 'S-A-R-C-A-S-M' isn't in your dictionary.
Do you know what 'Smilies' are for?

BillA 04-13-2005 10:32 AM

only Iwaki could say for sure, but I suspect its similar with 220V
I have another, MDG-M2S100NG which is the Japanese 100V version
weighs ~ 3kg too

Ohhh! I know! A contest. "Read the manual to find the answers in the contest entry, include with your boxtop for a chance to win a chrome cover with UV lights and ultra-cool spinning radiator warning sign...". Or whatever prize you think your target audience of manual-ignorers might be most motivated to do something for (sorry if some of my anti-bling prejudice is showing through, use your own judgment, of course...:))
You could even direct 'em to an on-line web entry - referencing an on-line manual, of course. Free UV whatever! Impress your friends!

There used to be a class of motorcycle rider that was like this (possibly an America-only phenomenon). They were uninterested in better handling, power,or comfort, but wanted more chrome and more lights. I don't see many of these bikes on the road any more - maybe they're decorating PCs?
