BIOS version is correct, that is the version that is listed on both the 1100 units I have. Both are newer units (they have "SnapAppliance" on the front of the case), and I have discovered they won't run any OS lower than the BIOS version number.

Didn't try, but I did try a couple different flavors of version 3.x

Ended up buying another working 1100 and copying an image of it, from the factory it was OS 4.0.855 and BIOS 4.0.855

I just installed 2x750GB drives and tried to set for one large (striping) disk and it won't format. Should this info be added to the wiki? ie drive configuration.

From the log I have:

I replace 2x300GB disks that were configured as one large disk. That was working fine.

The configuration is:
Snap Server 2000
SW: 4.0.830 (US)
HW: 2.0.0
Bios: 2.0.282

I am tempted to try 4.0.860 but I fear that it won't work either.

It's the magic number that keeps showing it's head with the 4000's. That is a number between 1T & 1.2T, which is max the OS can handle.

Since this is a 2x00 this tells me it's a OS restriction, Not hardware.

It seems like the code is using a signed integer rather than unsigned.
Signed integers can only store values up to 2147483647. I am not sure what the number is being used for, but the value '2915233536' stored in a signed integer becomes negative (-1379733760), and thus bogus to it.

Checking the net, the file that may be being used is:
http://mirror.sese.asu.edu/pub/OpenB...n/newfs/mkfs.c
it uses an int (fssize) to store the size of the file system, this means that it is limited to 2147483647 blocks. If I knew the block size, we could calculate the maximum capacity of a snap server.

Usable after formatting 374GB according to Snap OS, 366GB according to Linux.
street price, ~$220 each, my price @ Frys $89! (the invoice says 632A but the drives are 633A)

maybe need to upgrade fan.

You got a better, newer model drive then. Which uses less power and runs cooler. Both have a 5yr warranty.

yes... went from the original Quantum Fireball Plus 30 g drives to Megnetic Data Technologies (mdt) 250 g drives. Model MD02500-BJBW MDT are low budget drives but I have used them as system drives in desktop systems with no issues, so I thought I would give them a try here. So far so good.

Just picked this unit up from eBay, AUS. ;)

All seems to work well, I have already upgraded RAM to 256Mb and have plans to upgrade to 2 x 250Gb+ drives in the not to distant future.
