Re: Snap4000 Com1 port
Phoenix,
If you get a chance, could you provide some additional technical details on how you connected via the COM port on your 4000? I have a standard 10 pin keyed serial connector. I tried a null modem cable, and Hyperterminal set to 8 N 1 on the COM port, but I get no response from the 4000. Did you use a standard null modem cable? If not, could you provide pinout information? I realize that my particular board may not support connection via this method as well, but I'm trying to learn all I can about this thing. Thanks |
Re: Snap4000 Com1 port
Okay, my cable is a 10 pin keyed RS232 on one end and female 9 pin RS232 (like the comm ports on the back of your PC). Honestly, I never checked the cable to see if it was set up as a NULL MODEM cable (crossed send and receive signals) or not, so I cannot tell you for sure.
It has been a long time since I connected to the 4000 that way, but it seems like it was 9600 8 N 1 if I rememebr right. I know I am not much help here guys, but it was quite a while ago now and I just don't remember all the details. |
Re: Snap4000 Com1 port
I'll try a straight-through cable as well. Thanks for the info

Re: Snap4000 Com1 port
Too bad you dont have my smart box :D
It only take about 15 sec to configure a cable. I use to use it all the time connecting to PLC and other smart hardware. |
Re: Snap4000 Com1 port
I hadn't seen one of those before, but a Google image search shows that it looks a lot like a device I had planned to build just for that purpose.

Re: Snap4000 Com1 port
Mine is close to 15+ yrs old. That was when every thing was serial including printers. Has DB25 connections on both ends, so I carried 25 to 9 adapters.
