the BI and BIX are basically heater cores, just that they are perfectly sized for 120mm fans and have the right sized hose barbs. The radiator itself is basically a heatercore

f155mph 02-12-2002 09:44 PM

So what is so good about the Black ice extreme? To me it look like an overpriced black heater core with a shroud. I went to autozone and got a 12x6x2 heatcore for $19, add couple of barbs and your're done.

Brad 02-13-2002 04:53 AM

it cools very well for it's size. I doubt you'd see anything that size that would cool as well. But if you have a largish case, or aren't afraid to run stuff outside your case, I'd have to recommend a normal heatercore

Kevin 02-13-2002 11:58 AM

The Black Ice Xtreme was built specifically for the watercooling market by HWLabs. It was not built for automobiles and then converted. For its size, it is the top performing radiator around. It bests the BI2, which is twice the length of it. It can easily dissipate the heat of a couple peltiers. Furthermore becuase it was designed for watercooling, it fits perfectly and has mounting holes for a 120mm fan.

nice corporate blurb there kevin ;)

f155mph 02-13-2002 01:43 PM

I understand, but I think it's overpriced. Someone with the black ice should get a heater core and compare the difference between the two. That way we can all see if the Blk Ice is really worth all that money.

DigitalChaos 02-13-2002 02:06 PM

i just might be gettin a heatercore to compare to my bix... its gonna have to be equal in size. i was looking at that 67-68 chevette. that is about 6x6x2
now if anyone could find something that is 5x5x2 (fin size) that would be PERFECT.

No disputing that one...

look at Joe's radiator round up, the BI is 5" x 5" x 1", vs 6" x 8" x 2" ( or something like that ) of the big momma

If you look at the temps, there is fairly consistant differance throughout the test, but it isn't a huge differance

deeznuts 02-14-2002 04:52 PM

hey Kevin, the new and improved Black ICe Extreme, is it called BI Pro? cuz that is what dangerden is saying a new and improved BI is on their site.

Brad 02-14-2002 05:38 PM

http://www.dangerden.com/mall/radiators.asp

that shows the BI and BIX, and thats all I know on the matter....

deeznuts 02-14-2002 10:40 PM

yeah, but on their front page, the newest update news, is something called "The Black Ice Pro, a revised original with better flow and 1/2" fittings, will be available early March"

but after reading it again, the word "original" makes it look like maybe just a revised BI Prime, with the 1/2" fittings and the low pressure drop mod, which to me, looks very ugly (where they put a barb right in the middle of the rad).

Brad 02-15-2002 01:50 AM

it is the BI prime, but with 1/2", and a 'professional' low pressure drop mod, ie hwlabs do it, both barbs are on the sides

oh i see. would still rather have the BIX though.

fjpchina 02-17-2002 10:54 AM

On our forum (http://nokytech.net/forum/index.php - France) a joint order has been made for 40 BIX rev 2 (well I don't know the new name).
The price is less than 120 euros (about 100USD) including shipping.
We were told that they are now in production and that delivery should be expected beginning of march.

dacooltech 02-19-2002 04:47 PM

Well we'll be receiving a small batch of BI Xtremes the first week of march, too... Currently I guess we have the best prices on BI radis. $46 for BI prime (the original) and $68 for BI Xtreme...

You can pre-order @ www.cooltechnica.com If you drop me an e-mail ( dacooltech@cooltechnica.com) mentioning procooling.com I maybe able to ship you a Chrome plated Xtreme for no extra charge... We're going to receive a very small batch of Xtremes so I can't give you any promises... but later we'll have more BI radis in mid March...

BTW Kevin where should I be making supa deal announcements? 'cause I don't want to hang around in the forum pimpin stuff...

Bruce

fjpchina 02-19-2002 07:13 PM

Good price, in fact the same as ours after including taxes and shipping outside of the US
-> so for US customers without additional taxes -> good :)

dacooltech 02-20-2002 07:13 PM

Hi everyone thanks for all your e-mails...
I answered some but not all, 'cause I was really busy today... I'm working on them right now...
As you may noticed we took the store down since yesterday due to a problem with our secure credit card processing gateway. It was supposed to be solved today, but that didn't work  ... Hopefully everything will be working fine tomorrow...
and again I can't promise Chrome plated BI Xtremes to everyone... first comes first served but I'll personally e-mail the people before we put the store online, so that you can place your orders before everyone... that's the best I can do right now... but again I can't guarantee anything 'cause we're receiving very limited quantities of Xtremes...
BTW don't forget to fwd your invoice to me mentioning procooling forum... my e-mail is dacooltech@cooltechnica.com

Take care,

Bruce

dacooltech 02-22-2002 01:30 AM

OK everyone the chrome plated BI Xtreme deal is over.. I don't want to break anybody's heart but please don't send me anymore e-mails about this deal... 'cause we full filled the limit... I already e-mailed the ones who are getting the chrome plated rev. 2 BI Xtremes the first week of march..
for others I can either ship the standart BI Xtreme rev. 2 the first week of March or cancel their orders... Please e-mail me ASAP...
we're going to receive more BI radis in mid march, but the price might change...

thanks,

Bruce

dacooltech 02-22-2002 01:35 AM

and one more thing... we got the thumbs up from Verisign techs, so the store is up and running since 5pm EST...
check out www.cooltechnica.com and if you ever have any problems ordering online, please e-mail webmaster@cooltechnica.com... thx
at the weekend we'll add more items to the store especially products related to pelt cooling...

Bruce

TNT2bluz 02-22-2002 01:46 AM

Gents...it ain't a heater core. Its a radiator.

Heatercores generally use brass fins and use the honeycomb configuration. Radiators use copper.

Weedkiller420 02-22-2002 02:46 PM

Sup all had to sing up to post something in this forum but if yous spend that much money on this rad i got a brooklyn bridge for sale if yous want.

check this rad out its called big levi :)
http://liquidcool.org/main.php?zone=...n=10&group=158

now its fairly price here right but if you go inside an auto store and ask for 1975 chevy caprice rad they will give something that looks exactly like that oh wait it is the exact same thing but only diffrence is you will pay 21bucks or less and its the perfect size for 2 120mm and i mean perfect and it will make the black ice extreme look like a little scared afgany girl lol.

just my 2 cents lata guys

Brad 02-22-2002 03:29 PM

the leviathon is a nice rad, but it is huge. If you want to have a rad fit in your case, DDen offers a smaller sized heatercore, and the BI series

AL666 02-24-2002 06:01 PM

Ok guys I pre-ordered my BI Xtreme from www.cooltechnica.com... and thx to dacooltech it's going to be chrome plated and hopefully I'll receive it the first week of march.
as some of you know after all that 1/2" debate, i decided to build myself a new rig, and I'm going to use the BI Xtreme there...
I'm so curious how well it's going to perform over my current 3/8" setup. I'll publish the pictures and results then...

fjpchina 02-24-2002 07:21 PM

Does anybody know the differences betwen the "old" Black Ice Extreme and the "new" one delivered these comming days ?
