Meant to ask- Did you solder the brass parts together, looks like you did, and if so how did you keep the solder traces so straight?

Yes the brass is all soldered and then the shroud was solder to the heater core. I am glad that I am only doing this once. Way to many hours in building the shroud, but once installed and the system is running, it will be something I can looked back on and know I built it.

thats some nice work there, your way obviously takes a lot longer than most people's, but it looks awesome

Was screwing around and decided to try my rad in the Antec case. I removed the hard drive cage and both fans. What I decided to do is to replace the metal in front of the rad. I am going to remove the bottom front of the tower and build new sheet metal so a 120mm fan will bolt directly to the metal and not have any other holes in the front panel.

Sure. AutoZone # 845735 399026. Ford 1985 E150 1/2 ton van HEAVY DUTY heater core. I messed up earlier stating it was $23.00, sorry it is $27.99. I usually get that part right.

It will take (2) 120 mm fans, which is what I am going to use. I may slow them down if I don't need all that air.

Pardon the dust still painting, but here is an image of my mounting set up behind the Antec 840. You can see how I used standard 1/2" copper plumbing pipe to get stubbed into the case.

I tried like hell to get a 79 Ford Bronco heater core (much smaller than this one) inside the Antec 840, but couldn't do it. I wanted to put it under the roof but I would have to spend too much time cutting the case since the cd size drive bays were not wide enough for the heater core. I also tried it up front as DodgeViper is doing but did not want to change front to back case air flow. DV is doing one hell of a beautiful job on that heater core. (He still won't tell me how he got those brass pieces soldered with a perfectly straight solder joint!) Those Viper guys never share secrets with us Corvette owners! LOL :D :D :D

With my set up the radiator will slide under the kick space beneath my desk. After I get this done and see how the temps are I may try a 6 " X 6" core on the roof, but not right away!

Jim, hey where your copper goes through the case you might want to use rubber gromets. First this will insulate the copper from the metal and second it will help with any vibration you may have using the two fans.

Yeah, I was concerned with vibration noise, didn't happen, but I am going to put a tiny bead of silicon caulk around the copper tubing anyway to prevent galvanic action.

Thanks DV. Got the system up just a few minutes ago. Doing well. Have placed for the first time a 80 MM fan in front of my HDD's inside the Antec HD Drive Can blowing inward. Getting a lot of whine, this must not continue.

I used to run on the web at about 40-41 C, now I am at 35c. The case temps went up about 1C maybe 1.5 C, not an issue.

Once I get squared away I will post more info.

I have many guys to thank for all the help with this, some on this Forum and some over at Amd.mb.com.

I am actually surprised I got it all back together without trashing my CPU or MB or both!

I have lots of comments as to what I did wrong, and right, but that's for later.

I have a heater core back there as I posted earlier that is quite big. It is 11" tall overall. No way I'll get it into an Antec 840/1040 size case, unless I don't use CD drives! And I cannot fit a full tower under my desk.

I am going to try a small size core maybe a chevette or fiero later down the road.

My temps right now are 34 C with an ambient of 71F. Not sure if this is very good or not?

I do have to remember to be patient with AS 3. It does require time to settle in.

hehe, just remove the top cd drive, and use that, and the space back to the psu.

your temps are quite good, no problems there at all

Temp went down to 34C from 35 yesteday, maybe the AS 3 is getting it together.

Funny thing is that the idle and the operating temps (as I type) are the same 34C?

I still have to put the cover back on the side of the case too! Need to get a cord and female plug and install the relay for pump control.

No time now, always the problem.

What do you think about this this temp, ambient is 72F BTW.
I should stress it with Sandra I suppose!

yeah, they are very good temps no doubt about that, maybe you have acpi turned off in the registry, which will affect how low your system idles, either way, I wouldn't be worried. Load is where all the problems occur

YES I do have ACPI turned off in the BIOS. Last summer when I built this rig folks were experiencing problems with it so I disabled it.

Your are the first person that ever mentioned ACPI had anything to do with idle temps, thanks! ;) I'm not sure I can just toggle it on and off effectively in the BIOS from what I recall. I remember reading on the forums that the setting in the bios prior to the OS being installed was the proper method to disable ACPI. Not sure I can just go back and enable it in the BIOS and have all be well. Don't want to upset the OS, my machine is very stable.

But I'm itchin' to see if it drops the idle temps! "Tweak it 'til you blow it up", someone's sig reads!

ehh, I work at a computer store, approx 50% of problems are ACPI or APM related, or some form of power saving thing

and yes, that rad rocks

What is the total thickness of you radiator now? Measured from blowing fan to sucking fan or front to back if you will.
