I finally got round to try the suggestions of reversing the ac polarity and putting it in a box, neither had much effect :( Whats the best metal to use for boxing the pump in? and whats the name of the spray that your talking about?

The following information came from an engineer that specializes in magnetic shielding for the aerospace industry. I might add, that I spoke with this fellow for almost a half hour. He was fascinated with overclocking and the idea of a home built watercooled computer.
A shield of 16 gage cold rolled steel with a gap between 3/8” and ½” between the pump and the shield is the first step. If this does not do the trick, a second shield of Mu metal, with a ¼” to 3/8” gap between the steel shield and the Mu metal shield. I hope the steel shield works as Mu metal is very expensive. |
how thick is 16 gauge? same as computer case or drive rack? like a 3.5" drive cage?
|
16 gage is about 0.065".

30 posts and 12 days later we get back to this ;)

Before going that route, why not get extender cables and move that puter!, lol. Mr. Thompson, if you want another interesting conversation with him, ask him about radiation shielding for LEO satellites whose trajectory takes them over South America, hehehe. |
