I have been ruuning this thing for a week and the temps have stablized at 37c case/36c cpu. The case temp is wrong as MSI put the case temp sensor right next to the northbridge. The temp in the room is around 24c. These temps are about 6-8 degs better then the old pump I was using. I would like to post the pics I took but can't find the software disk for my camara :(

Connections are (as stated earlier) 3/4 ID.

sounds interesting. i'm curious if these pumps will be practical in the long term for h2o ppl. if you end up getting an itch to experiment with it, i'd be curious to see if you can easily swap out that stock motor on the Jabsco for a hotter one. it looks like a common 540 size, so a "modified" R/C car motor might work.:shrug:

Here is a picture of the pump in action. The elbows are 1/2 brass and the barbs are 3/8 as that is what my becooling jaged edge has.

With the pump mounted in the case, do you notice any sort of hum or vibration when it is running (even the slightest bit)? The hum of my Eheim 1048 pump is seriously amplified by my case, so I'm looking for something as close to silent as possible. Plus a 12V hookup to the PSU is nice :)

Also, what type of reducer would I need to go to 1/2" ID tubing?

wow thats one expensive little pump.. Its a dc motor driving the impeller magnet right? Wonder how long it will take the brushings to wear out

awesterink: You will need 3/4 to 1/2 reducers and the pump is every quiet. I can't hear it at all. While i was building my res and full system I had it screwed to my metal garage door and still couldn't hear it running. I have to a couple fingers on it to make sure it's still on.


Sanjuro: Yes. It a DC motor driving a magnetic coupler so the inpeller is in a sealed housing and there are no seals on the motor shaft. The mfg states that the brush life is 2500 hrs.

I don't think it will wear out as quickly as the mfg thinks it will. I work as an instrument repair tech at a bio tech company. We have some 12v dc pumps that are rated to last for 1500 hrs. that have been on machines for over 5 years. These machines run almost 24/7/365 and pump some of the nastiest chemicals on the planet. We have more problems with seals going bad in the pump head than the motors burning out. And we just change the seals and reuse the pumps. I would have used one of these pumps for my water cooler but they only have 1/8 fittings and pump 5 to 30 mil a minute depending on the speed of the motor. One other problem with that pump is at full blast it draws 5 amps.

Very useful stuff, Stepback! Just one more question before I rush off to the shop: how hot does the pump run? Can you touch it after a couple of hours? Could you slap a thermistor on it and give ma a ballpark temperature reading?

....sidenote: It's hotter than hell here.. It's got to be about 100F here, w/ high humidity. Also, I've been running prime95 for a few hours, and so the rad on my PC is acting as a space heater for my house. My poor AC can't keep up! CPU is at 50C and holding. It idles at 42-44, depending on ambient. I guess if I find the next prime I'll be able to afford the electric bill.. :D
