heh, my family is from Ribnica

Cool, not realy close to me but nice city, I knew Matej Kosem, we went to faculty of mechanical engineering together, but I don't know where he was from.
This is what I was doing today, designing modified version to so there wouldn't be problems with dimm slots in the way, this will be (if I'm going to do it) also machined version, the only thing missing are two 1/2" fittings on the back block. http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...lock/85002.JPG http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...ck/8500ex2.JPG http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...ck/8500ex3.JPG http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...lock/8500b.JPG |
Kickass.
Hey i'm using Pro/Desktop (free version of Pro/E) and i'm looking for a PCI connector (the one which sits on the mobo). Do you have that ? I would take a 'standard' PCI card as well :) I'm building a complete system under Pro/E. If you want objects feel free to drop me an email. Currently i have: - ATX mobo, only the PCB though - AGP slot - CNR slot - AGP card without bracket - Brackets - Zalmann NB heatsink (the big one) - Various screws, mounts and springs. I'm fully working on more components (socket A, NB, etc...) Note: each component is *mechanically* conformant to the spec, including connecting radiuses (radii ?) etc.. My only problem is the PCI spec aint free :( |
That is so frickin' cool. If I didn't just break myself on my initial watercooling project, I would definitely sign on for one. If you manage to mass produce those, you might want to contact danger den or some of the other suppliers ... I'm sure at LEAST one would be willing to sell them.
|
gmat, sorry I don't have a pci slot. But how accurate are we talking here, every pin inside, or just overall dimensions. why don't you just take measures of it.But I do have a pci modem card outside, so I can model it.
|
I'm planning to custom build a case and for that i need every dimension.
My models are acurate but there's only the 'shell' and card slot. I dont model any electrical connection, so no pins. I use the specs and get technical drawings from those so i have *exact* dimensions at micrometer scales. Measuring would not yield such precise figures.. But for the PCI slot i guess i'll have to... I want to make the model precise because i'll machine parts of the case, and have other parts made out of composite materials. |
Why you need such precision, 0.1mm is more than enough, do you believe other cases are that precise, not that is anything wrong with that, but I just don t see the point on measuring something to 0.001mm , heck you can move the mobo on that crew holder a lot more than that.
|
Maybe, but ppl who'll be making parts for me and CNC's only understand precise measurements. And small errors add up to a point where you cannot mount things... I dont want this to happen, given the price of materials i'll be using. Besides, using a technical drawing from the spec is easier than having to take apart the pieces (i have only 1 PC).
Anyways if you want Pro/E components (and precise ones :p) just ask. |
Yes I agree with you, if you've got cnc machining, why not make it as precise as possible. Do you have same special designed case you're making (pics. maybe)
|
I'm working on it... Thats why i asked for components :p I'll be happy to post pictures of it when it's finished. I hope i'll get something up around mid to end August.
All i can say it will be *special*, since i'll use zero fan - complete passive cooling solution. It will be neither a cube, nor a tower :) The shape will be the by-product of ideal watercooling components placement and best heat removal from passive rads / heatsinks. |
tried a good digital caliper, my dad is an engineer and his company has one that is capible of 0.001 mm, but they arn't cheap.

Gmat, that sound very interesting can't wait, I was also thinking of custom building my case, but time... Just can't find it between all projects.
Water cooling is almost finished, here's little preview, bigger and nicer pics. tomorrow, I'm tired :) http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc8500/almost%20fin.jpg |
As promised, some more pics. I'm finished, but I won't installed it yet, I need to make northbridge block too, (base of the wb on the left of the 3rd pic.) so I don't have to go through all procedure of waterblock mounting twice.

The new design looks good also. Hows it comming along?
|
i've noticed a lot of people giving 3d designs for their planned water blocks, i am interested in doing that but is it very complicated and does it really help?

New design is currently sidetracked, because I've been busy with GF4 and cpu block. |
update
Hey fellas, I just finished new 8500 water block that is easier to install and uses one side water cooling other side passive heat spreader
http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...20new%2003.jpg http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...20new%2005.jpg http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...20new%2006.jpg I'll test it tomorrow when I get ati 8500 card from a guy that this is for. |
DROOLING
|
chapeau morphling, that is some unreal work u've done.
|
This becomes a Pavlov's reflex situation here - every time morphling1 put a pic of new block everybody drools.
Me too, ofcourse... :p Man, you are good! |
Thanks, thanks a lot for kind words, well they inspire me to keep it up.
Btw. this one was a lot tougher then GF4 because of 8500 layout with all it's capacitators in the way. |
Few things had to be changed to fit nicely on my mobo.
Here last pictures from 8500 project. I'll be thinking realy hard if I'll ever make another of those, hardest job ever so many details, to watch for... but on the end it turned out pretty good. http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...20new%2008.jpg http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...20new%2007.jpg http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...%20in%2001.jpg http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/Herc850...%20in%2002.jpg |
