well puzzdre, thx al00t for the inspiring peptalk. but i recently killed a good 1500+ amd, 2 month before i killed a 1900+ amd + 8kha+. i need to lay low for a while. all this diy stuff is killing my bankline.

lol, all hobbies cost alot so it's not thaaat expensive.

still, i was dremeling out the io connectors panel and pci ports out of that case, and alot of stuff simply didn't want to move. so after a while /me is always getting impatient and start to applying excessive force to live out my anger towards the subject (in that case, The Case). so now, i've got a lot of metal shavings on the floor, some bruises and cuts in hands and arms + a very bent large case.

Can you post a pic of the rear side and the inside look of the case? With all the smart people here, I'm pretty sure you'll come with something!

Plexy comes to mind for the backplate...clear or colored...and drill you already have...:p

as for the drugs...I just love that 3C stuff...have plenty of it here...:D

there we go, first pic is a full view of situation.

my plan was to remove the rivets holding the tray that holds the io ports and pci ports. then the whole thing would fall out i was thinking. that didn't happen, as u can maybe c that the tray is welded to the rest of the case.

so i started to get at it with the trusty old dremel, but still it didn't want to come off to easily. started to try and pry it open with a large flathead screwdriver, and now all steel was starting to look pretty bent. also i think the bottom of the pci tray is also welded to the motherboard tray. so basically, i wouldn't know how to get it done in a fashion that doesn't make it look like pieces of scrap metal.

The last pic looks like an ATX board would fit just perfect, if you drilled the right holes in the mobo tray--you'd just have an extra two slots and a gap at the bottom.

You could use those for the extra USB ports that always seem to get in the way. ;)

well, @ arcturius. the io backpanel is 1/3 shorter than a normal atx io backpanel, so that is a no go. checked the official atx formfactor dimensions, and none of the holes are correct.

so as bigben2k says, blowtorch time. the mobo tray is worthless, and the pci + io backpanel needs to go to. :-(

so one looks at masses of dremeling/jigsawing, and some precise riveting welding, to not make it look too ghetto.

assuming you'll have hcores in the other side of the case, it would look something like this...(also nicer;) )

You can use atx I/O backplate from your old case and rivet it (aligned with mobo) in the new case...or you can make one in plexy...


other ideas, anybody?

what u suggest puzzdre, is what i was first aiming for. i got a little pissed when i noticed it was not only rivets holding it together, but also welding spots.

eventually what might be easy, is to buy a cheap small narrow case, and put it in the original case as a whole. that might be even easier to realise.

problem is, i do'nt know if feel like working this case for weeks on end...

You should be able to drill out the spotwelds easy enough.

It looks like an ATX mobo would fit no problem if you drilled the holes yourself!. is that oblong hole the right size for the I/O, serial,ect, ports?.

That case is a gem...I should say it's worth the effort.

I'm even considering buying two smaller cases and putting 'em together...

Your idea of putting smaller case inside of this one seems good and easy enough, just take good measurements...;)

i recently found this great new cheap pc-parts shop in the hood; remembered that last time i picked up a new amdxp (i am amd's saviour, i burn up about 3 cpu's a year), there were some damaged cases outside at their rubish. asked em if i could have one, they said no prob. the front bezel was damaged, and no side panel. great!!! saves me 50€ on a case with psu, i only need back/bottom/mobo tray from.
