I'm running Seagate 120gig SATA and I'm perfectly happy with it, it's just silent. Recently acquired one WD 60 gigs ATA just for the reason to put all the crap and 'backups' from the main drive to that spare one, and, guess what, now both of them are clogged....damn....

I'm very very happy with my new WD740s. They are nice and smooth.

I just got a 250GB Maxtor, and it is nice'n'quiet. Oh, and I do use it for backups. Backups of my other hard drives, that is. :D It's nice to be able to have backup images of my laptop and my other daily-use computers.
