I'd say its the design. No inlet over core and a lot of the block isn't really doing that much.

Heatsink are big cause they are slower to get the heat away. You want the heat out of the metal as quick as possible, therefore a die inlet is best. See Cathars block for the current best WB design, and you can make something not too dissimlar. (Including G design etc.)

I was doing .09inch passes on my mini mill today with 3/16inch ball end mill.

-edit- can do more than that, but its faster to do less,

so you can just fly througg 1 tenth? how fast about?

pretty nice, but kinda slow, .05inches seems best for speed to depth ratio
