That's the compressor for the chiller that helps cool the water for my pelt. I haven't had a chance to see what kind of frost forms on the pelt itself, but I'd assume it'd be a pretty good amount. ;)

Frosting on the compressor is really bad news!! It kills compressors fast, did you build that yourself or fill it yourself? I wouldnt have thought any professional would fill a system that liquid slugs the compressor...

Yeah, after I posted that picture here I had someone explain what exactly is happening... like you said, no good. :(

I didn't build or fill the system myself but there are a couple adjustments on the chiller and one of them seems to affect the "chill" this thing puts out. If I adjust it so there is no frost on the compressor my water temps rise from ~2c to ~9c(fully loaded system). Which I can live with if it means extending the life of the compressor.

Thanks for pointing out the danger to my system. ;)

damn... i wish i kept the pics of my Bucket of Ice with a Pelt Cooling my athlon

there was some serious frost

JFettig 09-20-2003 02:57 PM

Just curious, how much frost do you want to see? :D

one question.. couldnt you just put those TEC's together without the middle plate? I mean.. you can after all get multiple staged TEC's from the manufacturer, and they get away with it. After all you are just eliminiating another joint.

JFettig 09-20-2003 10:47 PM

Yeah, but no, its a 50mm and a 40mm peltier. and I wasnt planning on stacking peltiers. I just decided to do it because I could:p see what kind of temps I can acheive. If I am really feeling up to it, Ill see how cold I can get my duron 850(stock 45watts) It wont handle more than 60 watts any colder than it would be with just the 226 Im thinking.

-edit-
I calculated my cold plate temp to be around -66c Lets see what happens:D

so were you looking for this kind of frost?

Or this kind of frost?

I bet I could pull some more with insulation. I still gotta do a little work on my powersuply, the transformer was getting quite toasty.

I was wondering how low I could get the cpu to go with a water cooling system and two of these on top of each other. Also could the two of those run on one 300watt dedicated power supply? I'm really new to this thanks!

I have been waiting for a while but here is my frost :D

maxim 10-08-2003 01:45 AM

joemac, that's a nice temp. that temp of LLL F seems a little high. what's that in celsius? GGG?

audi_boy_racer 10-08-2003 01:58 AM

this may sound like a stupid question but, if your getting frost and you put it on your CPU would you need to protect it from condensation since its already frozen the droplets?? or would the CPU start to melt the frost faster than it can freeze it.

snowman88 10-08-2003 05:27 AM

isn't that what neoprene and silicone is for?

LOL funny you asked - I did try it in C and it was still LLL :D

Yes you would need to protect the CPU but the thread ask to see the frost so here is some more.

winewood 10-08-2003 10:37 AM

the LLL on a compunurse means below freezing think. GGG means it will detonate. So I would be careful joemac.

Yea I know I know not a good long term solution :)

Banzai 11-20-2003 02:01 AM

Man, all these pics here are making me want to get my setup up and running soon.

Maybe after the SiS655TX motherboard and schoolies :D

In my Pelt setup... I didnt want frost ;)

msv 11-21-2003 01:03 AM

pHaestus, how did You manage to get conensation on the waterblock?
Tons of antifreeze in the water and the heater core in a bucket of licuid nitrogene?

pH: Is that a hot/cold loop setup ?

kommando 11-30-2003 05:13 PM

000000 aaaahh frost.

What size pelts is everyone using?

I used 40 x 40 rated at 45W with the aquagold block. It does not take much to frost over a base plate when a TEC is properly cooled with an Adequate pelt block.

i was wondering.. aint that frost water gona fired ur cpus ? :]
