Ok Im new to all this stuff so these are probley dumb questions.
On the blocks I dont see any solder and only 4 little screw things to hold the 2 peaces together what are thoses. Also how do you guys cut your copper down to shape. Thanks. |

Do you think a jig saw will do the trick on cutting the copper.
Also If Im going to make me a hard drive block what thickness of copper should I get. And Im making a rotor design what type of drill bits do you guys use. I though I read in anther post wood bits is that true. |

rather use a hack-saw....
it's not really wood bits... though it commonly is used on wood... when at the hardware store... ask for high-speed steel bits.... they are adequate for doing the job and not too expensive.... http://3rotor.homelinux.com/images/F...P02757_sml.JPG something like this |
Ok thanks also instead of making lots of little holes can I just make the holes bigger will that affect anything and how deep should I get the holes. Aslo how do I sand down the edges so it looks nice.

;) |
The secret is timing Puzzdre!
When she next asks you about doing a "honey do" job that you could make use of a bands saw in doing for her, explain you'll be very glad to do .......... for her, you just need this saw. ;) |
holy moly!! you have found the secret solution to my problems! Lathe, bandsaw, drill press.. here we come! |
LOL guys,
She's a strong woman, She can cope with few more essential powertools in our small community... :D I just got a mitre saw from her for our anniversary, think that Christmas is good time for another 'kind of saw that I need';) We are thinking of buying an older house instead of apartement, and old houses needs repairing, repairing needs tools. Also, house means having a front yard, a garage (to put the tools in) and ofcourse, back(junk)yard for all the things that will come handy one day...Do you think it's a good idea to buy a 1000$ used mill to make the door plate with our name on it? I think it's worth a try...:D winewood, don't forget the mill :p |
i'd go for a renovating old house over an apartment, any time. what can a hobbyist do with an apartment, really?
|
Fill it full of power tools and call it a hobby flat.:D

Javascripterror, LOL, but neighbours will not agree...Maybe in geriatric home of some kind, all neighbours visually challenged, with hear impairment, and sexually inactive (surely hope so:eek: )... Maxim, sorry for hijacking your thread, pls blame #Rotor he's the one with the gadgets that make us drool all the time;) |
haha, no problem. im just sitting here looking at all this stuff y'all have, and dreaming of that day when i get a job and have money to afford things:)
|
Just a quick question: Where did you get your drill press and tap/die set and how much did they cost? Nice job on the blocks btw =)
|
How do you keep the 2 blocks to gether with out soldering.
|
Jewfro, press is $90 from sears. im not sure what tap set you're referring to. i bought a $17 set form sears that has an 8-36 tap for the set screws. i also bought a $7 tap for the barbs form McMaster.
krisco, the 4 set screws keep it together. i have GOOP for sealing. |
