Ebay!

panaflo 120mm med

That is unless 5 fans for 5-10$ + 8$ shipping is to much (bid one group at a time, I ended up w/ 15 fans for ~30$ (Lifetime supply :p)

They are untailed though (go to electronics supply and connectors + crimps = about 15-20$ so still beats 15$ / fan?

Alright... Can someone recommend good 120x38 thick fans that can be quiet without a huge sacrafice in CFM

Here's what I just got: (reading off the fan label)

Comair/Rotron WHISPER XL DC WD12C3
12vdc .18A = 2.2W! (only!)
All Zinc alloy construction
Independance & Poliarity protected

75CFM@12v w/feathered edge fan blades for even smoother air flow = quieter... I don't have the exact dba #'s but at 12v I'd say they are no louder than 30dba! It's much more quieter than any fan I have, cept the 172mm at 12v

I built a case that was almost completely sealed off except for the fan holes, and it is definately more important to be sucking out the hot air than to try to force air in. also, it has been said numerous times around here in the push vs. pull debate on fan mounting that fans are more efficient when pulling air through a rad than pushing (i think you only get like a 40% increase when both are used) and the same thing applies w/ the pressure in a computer case. with the fan setup on the computer i mentioned earlier i noticed the most improvement when i added exhaust fans (if you've got hot air coming out of any of your exhaust fans, it probably wouldn't hurt to add more) and when i cranked the front fans up and switched over to positive pressure in the case it did nothing for my temps, only blew air out of the drive bays (which is covered in the article here at procooling) so if you're at all concerned w/ how quiet your pc is (ie, trying to use as few fans as possible) it would make sense to use them as efficiently as you can. anyway, my $0.02

*edit* oops, didn't see fhorst's post. i agree, sounds like a good fan configuration. even better if you've got some voltage adjustment on those suckers. btw, how are the evercool fans? i've been looking at maybe getting those (i'd get a blower but i'm pretty sure that won't fit in my case)

I have had a computer running for a year that cools by this principle. On it now are 2 evercool aluminum 120mm fans (gotta love them: heavy, dont vibrate, smooth, quiet) exhausting air on top and 3 80mm fans in the back also exhausting air. There are no air leaks in the case (thanks pax mate :D) and the only intake is the radiator up front. It is a very quiet and effecient design, plus with a filter on the radiator no dust gets in the case. I dont have to block off every fan hole with a filter that is intaking air. Also, this is equivalent to 5 fans on a radiator, since the entire case is acting as a shroud. :D
