Hey I just thought of something, the MoBo has a CMOS battery, if I were to take that out to reset the CMOS and then pop it back in, hoping for a reset? What are you speculations as to what would happen??

Re: Snap Server 2200 connectivity issues?

A word of note:

I do not know if the 2200 will boot from either drive if not in RAID1. So if it is not the main drive (TOP). Data is still safe. Will walk you through the recovery process if you have a spare drive. Will need to know the capacity of the current drives if it comes to that.

The 2200 very seldom have a hardware (MB) failure. And most failures are due to overheating, FAN Failure.

Want help you in your case. Will not start without it. Need to use assist to see if it's hiding. If you pull the battery will need to use Assist. May need to setup a new HD with the OS. I don't think the 2200 will boot from either drive in not in RAID 1.

Re: Snap Server 2200 connectivity issues?

Well it was working before, they lost the 2nd harddrive um.... like back in January or before January....

and they've been using the 1st harddrive ever since, they said the 1st one crashed back in March and they used the disc to recover it, or whatever, I'm assuming the Assist program, but now they don't know where the disk is so I can't really use it, you know?

I'm thinking it's a network connection problem too, like Phoenix said.... I think somehow it was assigned a dynamic IP from the DHCP, the only problem is I can't find a way to detect IP or MAC address devices connected to our network....

if i could just do that then I could see if I can find.... I think i'm desperate enough to actually try typing every IP from 192.168.0.2 --- 192.168.0.253!

I think the 2nd HD probably had a fan failure and fried.... I don't remember feeling the harddrive spinning when I plugged it in and booted up to the CD to run the diag.

So removing the CMOS and replacing it won't do anything, eh?

Blah.... I think I too need assist to see if I need to restore the HD again.....

They said they already did it once back in march of this year....

Wouldn't surprise me if it messed up again, even the network printers are in a "weird" configuration....

Website says configurable for RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD.......

Are they running any UPS equipment on their network hardware?:nono:

I've seen what surges and dips can do to equipment.

May be time it invest in some.

Thats what they will do.

Default is JBOD

GET THE ASSIST PROGRAM! USE IT!

-or-

Take it home and hook it to your router where you can see the IP being used.

There were a batch or 2 of 2200 motherboards that were recalled by Quantum...

Hence me having 3 at one point

I think the drive with the OS failed, not being in RAID 1.

Will need to reload 1 drive with the OS to boot then access the other drive.

Well, I thought about that, but then I thought, if it's already being dynamically assigned through DHCP, won't it be assigned a different IP Address while on MY network, than what it would be assigned at my job's network?

I have the assist program now, thanks, and I'm going to attempt to use it

If you have it set for DHCP it will not be needed. BUT most assign a static IP since it a server. No need to go hunting for it every time.

Yeah, I was just thinking...... since it's supposed to be 192.168.0.30 statically assigned, but if it messed up and became dynamically assigned, chances are my network will assign it a different IP (dynamically) than would be at my job's network, right?

I tried running the Assist software and I don't know, it didn't detect either my 2200 or my 2000, and the 2000 is on the network and works perfectly fine.....

When searching for the server I type in the SNAP<serial#> but it still finds nothing, how does the Assist work? Can I use IP addressing in place of the server name?

Re: Snap Server 2200 connectivity issues?

Do I need to be connected to the snap server directly to the PC I'm using? (in this case my laptop) I can connect them both using an ethernet cable.

Yes you can.

Assist polls the subnet for a built in signature. Sometimes it takes 5 -10 minutes depending on server. Be patient, I know it's hard, but it does work if the lan port is working, and the OS activated the net drivers.

Nah it just kept telling me that it couldn't find any server, regardless of using the IP or not.... finally i pinged it from the laptop again and it didn't respond so i'm going to do it from a lan computer....

Re: Snap Server 2200 connectivity issues?

Blue I wanna thank you a lot......

Pheonix I bow before you..... it actually was a dynamically assigned IP address..... it changed from being .30 to being .118

so I changed it to being .30 again.... that's odd, I don't know But I think someone was messing with it before they shut it down for the hurricane.

The assist worked great and It found the snap server to which I clicked on the web browser info and found it was on a completely different IP address....

now I just have to check and make sure I can access the info, the server responds when pinged and tracert'd so I want to make sure I can still read the data on the disk.

No need to bow to me, it was just a hunch (I'm real good at that for some reason), but it was blue68f100 who deserves all the praise.

Now that you can connect to it, time to dig in there, recover what data you can, and get to work on the rest of the issues, like the dead drive etc... Good luck, and I hope we can help.

It is either that, or for some reason, the config files corrupted meaning it had forgotten its IP, and just when into dynamic mode!
