jim: pretty sweet. I've got an Inwin Q500 tower. I'm going to move the HD cage from the front to above the PSU (I'll have to hack it up a bit, though :) ) The rad fits in the bottom from w/ an inch or two to spare. (the rad's 11" high!) The only question is depth. the rad + fans = about 4" thick, and I had thought about using an adaptor of sorts to move the fans and inch or so away from the rad, and have the fans suck air through... Bottom line: where on earth am I going to stick the pump? I hear the 1250's are big. :D

mm..any other sites to recommend? or maybe someone kind enough could get it from autozone for me and ship it to me? :) |
Yeah, I don't see it either. I looked at advanceautoparts.com, but they had no info on international orders. autozone.com 's site seems to be down right now.... :(
|
your right, and they have them in their catalog. FYI, the Econoline is a full size van. Might help to know when searching.
I looked at NAPA but I can't recomend them for overseas since they don't ship to Alaska even. Yet they have 6 stores here in Anchorage. and their parts are cheaper online. |
gogo: yeah thanks man..found the model..BUT..i still get no heatercores!! argh. i only have "auxillary heating unit"..argh.. and virtually nobody ships overseas!! :(
anybody willing to take me up on the offer..help me get 2 of these from autozone and ship it to me and i'll pay you..by say..paypal? with a small fee as gratitude of course? ;) |

I can if you figure out the postage or assist me with it. I don't need anything for doing this, Auto zone is 10 minutes away so is the USPS. I still have my box so I can just go get two of the same I have, that's the one you are looking for right? I think they were $27.99 plus tax, got to dig up the receipt. Jim |
alright Jim! :D i'd be more than happy to help! check your pm? just need the weight of one of these things..
|
$27.99 is correct... I paid that plus tax last night.. :)
|
mm..rough weight of one of these monsters?
|
It feels slightly lighter than a 2.5 lb weight I have... hard to tell though.
|
thanks pirate. :) btw, is the autozone part no. 399026?
|
that's the one.

damn autozone. i tried to check out the weight by entering the part no. and I got 0.00lbs. great.
|
Pirate-
You got a bathroom scale you can put the core with the box on? I am guessing about 3.5 pounds. Jim |
nope... sorry. But two cores in a box should be around seven lbs.
|
All seriousness aside
Just one question for you Jim...
That pic you posted: http://images.andale.com/f2/104/124/..._case_2inv.jpg  How the heck do you get your puter and rad to stick to the ceiling? :evilaugh: |
Heat rises.

Well, ready for a LOOOOOOOOOng story? Firstly I mounted the heater core on the rear of the case with the inlets at the bottom. Took some snaps as things progressed. Later on I changed it and mounted it with the inlets at the top, since the tubing (copper) didn't work out with the inlets down at the base of the case. And I took snaps of that too. Then I read the post here about someone wanting a core with BOTH inlets at 5/8" or something along those lines. So I dug through my folder with the cooling snaps and put the nice clean one up on the posting site with the inlets at the bottom: on Andale. Posted the snap here with the inlets postioned at the bottom, as they were when I first mounted the core, BUT the gremlins wouldn't allow the entire snap to post up here on ProForum! The bottom of the image kept getting cut off, so you couldn't see the "barbs". ARRRRRRRRRRRRRR So I went back edited the g.d. snap by inverting it 180 degress so the inlets (which is what was the point of interest here) were positioned on the TOP and I posted it again on Andale, and then put it up on the Forum. The base of the image is still chopped off. Boy what a PITA huh? Jim |
haha..oh yeah. i guess if we were observant enough we would've noticed that the ATX panel had the ps/2 ports at the BOTTOM instead of the top..lol
edit: oh wait. EVERYTHING in the background is upside down too! haha..what dumbasses we are ;) |

I just wanted to get the info out here as quickly as possible. Still can't figure out why the image was chopped. Jim |
Here's a question... with a rad that big sitting outside your case, do you even NEED fans? & are you using fans anyway? :)
How warm is the air coming off of a radiator anyway? My knowledge of physics tells me that the same amount of heat must be dissipated regardless of the method used, but it takes a lot more energy to heat up water than air. So, air coming off of a HSF should be much much warmer that air from a big rad. It should take longer for the water in the system to heat up, thus giving a passive radiator lots more time to dissipate the small heat difference. Me thinks a passive radiator inside a reasonably well ventilated case would be adequate for most systems. Your criticism please? |

Regarding the need for fans on a radiator - the same amount of heat can be removed up to a limit, but the issue is at what temperature this occurs at (thermal equilibrium point). So it depends on the amount of power (thermal energy) you have and how high of a temperature rise you can tolerate in your water. To get an idea - take a read through this article and look at what air flow rates do to the heat handling capacities of the rads. The Big Momma is a heater core, so you can use it as a point of reference. |
BTW Jim - a silly, serious question (now there is an oxymoron) - why didn't you just clip the top of the pic off? (oh, and glad you got a laugh out of me zanyness :D )
If you don't already have it, grab IrfanView for doing quick and easy pic conversion/clipping/rotation/etc. ;) It's freeware and very good for that sort of thing. |
heh, it looks much better now Jim.
why not just run 2x 69cfm 120mm panaflo's on it, you'll never hear them |
Yeah, that's plan B. 2 of those w/ 7/off/12v switch.
Plan A is the comair patriot @ 12v... still wondering how noisy that will be. Maybe I can crank it down to a lower voltage.. |
patriot is extremely loud at 24v, it is tolerable at 12v tho
--Matt |
Define tolerable, in relation to Panaflo fans. L1A, M1A, or H1A...? :)
How is the patriot at lower voltages, and is that even possible? |
