Yep!, it's a little large to go incase easily :D
It's 190mm X 215mm(without barbs) X 50mm thick. cooling fin area is 190mm x 180mm. perfect for a 175mm fan ;) . the in/outlets are 1/2 internal as well...

I tried soaking the rad in undiluted vinegar, but it was'nt very good :( .
i'll try some caustic soda, but I'm seriously thinking of getting one of those 'BIX eater' Abyss's :evilaugh:

Mysterious Bob 09-09-2002 02:52 PM

Did anyone find one of those Opel heatercores yet?
How'd the scrap-hunt turn out? :) Any luck?

g.l.amour 09-09-2002 02:58 PM

i know i guy on a dutch forum that got already got 1 titan, and 4 big momma's outof the opels. i still haven't figured out what to do with my current setup (already got 2 rads, the madness needs to stop somewhere), so i'm waiting.

Puzzdre 09-09-2002 04:00 PM

no, sorry guys, didn't have time to go hunting cores...maybe next week...

busabus 09-09-2002 05:49 PM

Puzzdre.... seeing as you're too busy to go to a dirty, filthy, black pit of broken car dreams... can I interest you in a heater core, postage and packing free of course.... for the right price ;)

Puzzdre 09-09-2002 05:56 PM

And to take all the fun????????
Hunting my friend, is not all about trophies, but for the fun of the hunt!:D :D :D

busabus 09-09-2002 06:06 PM

Hmmm.... stuggling to wrench the guts out of a rusty smashed up heap whilst the buck tooth yard owner watches from a rocking chair toating a shotgun waiting for you to slip up... hmmm...

I don't like scrap yards

Mysterious Bob 09-12-2002 11:56 AM

At some scrapyards, they do take the cars apart themselves, then you just tell them want you want (they'll get confused when you're not using it for a car though...) and they'll (try to) fetch it. That's how it was at the scrapyard I went to today at least :)

Didn't really find anything nice though. Found an Opel Vectra HC (Bigmomma-style) but it was just a tad to big (about 19 cm wide) to fit into my case. All the others pretty much were to big or had the fins to tightly packed.

PlawsWorth 09-12-2002 12:31 PM

ford

Finally I have found a scrapyard where I don't have to take apart the car myself. I'm getting a Ford Fiesta -83 heatercore for 21$

2-460

7 1/2 by 6 1/4 by 1 5/8inch. 1/2 in/out let.

For: Ford Fiesta, 1978-1980. That's it, nothing else.

An unusual core, with what looks like plastic barbs, both pointed out to the side (not terribly convenient).

You'd be better off with 2-296, or 2-298 (same outlet direction, but copper tubing). Same size, but 2 inch thick.

Another alternative: 2-262. A bit smaller (7 1/8 by 6 1/8 but 2 1/2 inch thick). Barbs come out the front.

Wanna car list?

PlawsWorth 09-12-2002 01:12 PM

shurething

shurething :) The thing with the one after 83 is that the have two pipes so it's easier to connect a silicon hose.

PlawsWorth 09-12-2002 01:14 PM

ps

thing is I have a volvo240 radiator that is to wide right now (7,53") and my case is only 7,14" wide.... so a small radiator/heatercore that is made of pure copper is needed.

Which one do you want: 2-296, 2-298 or 2-262?

PlawsWorth 09-12-2002 01:21 PM

me

maybe i'm a bit stupid or lazy right now but what does the numbers mean? :)

PlawsWorth 09-12-2002 01:24 PM

well

oh, think I understand a bit now. Well, tubing is crap right? the maxxxpert mono is tubing if I don't remember wrong (?) and it sucks after what I have heard. thought it isn't a car heatercore. as long that it's no bigger than 7,93x7,14" and made out of copper and no tubing stuff. Like a bix but bigger and from a car ;-)

bigben2k 09-12-2002 01:32 PM

It's not that complicated. Most heatercores have copper tubes that stick out from them. None have barbs. A few odd ones have o-ring mount types (I'd stay away from those, unless you plan to solder your own barbs).

The tube is best, because you can use any tube, and a hose clamp. You don't have to cut anything, unless the tubes are a bit too long, or they are bent in a weird way.

2-262 click me!

That one might turn out to be a little taller than 7 1/8 inch, because I can't say for sure if the measurement includes the tanks (top and bottom).

If you think you can mod that one, I'll give you a car list.

Ok, well can you explain again abit easier what's so crappy about the -83 ford fiesta heatercores? cause they have perfect size :)

The problem is that they are 1 5/8 inch thick.

2-296, or 2-298 are the same size, but 2 inch thick.

2-262. A bit smaller but 2 1/2 inch thick. (7 1/8 by 6 1/8)

bigben2k 09-12-2002 02:10 PM

You know what? Since you're in Sweden, and the cores I'm suggesting are American Motors parts, let's just forget about it!

Go with the Fiesta core, and let us know how it works out.

PlawsWorth 09-12-2002 02:34 PM

maybe

well we got most of the cars you guys got. exepct oldsmobile and other "rare" ones. Though my nr 1 car is a Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser -72, I would rather have a vista than a porsche or dodge viper :)

morphling1 09-12-2002 04:19 PM

Hey, europeans, you totaly forgot Lada heatercore, It rocks check it out: http://www2.arnes.si/~mlivak/new/Radiator1.jpg
Full copper brass combo, I soldered copper shroud on it. I got it for 4$ (all cores cost that), all others I saw were aluminium or to dense fins, but this one is realy great, but I also like that Opel Ascona heatercore.

PlawsWorth 09-13-2002 05:32 AM

far out

well the only problem is finding a scrapyard with a lada. In Sweden, Norway, Finland, Great Britain, France etc they are quite rare since the cars very the worst cars ever built. Though the heatercore seems nice. Opel on the other hand is more common. Though if you live in east Germany (ex DDR), Poland, Estonia, Russia etc it might be much easier to find them.

Gnozo 09-13-2002 12:51 PM

I've got one of those Lada heatercores, they are nice indeed....but too big for my projects.....and friggin' heavy :(

busabus 09-13-2002 01:00 PM

I'll take the Diablo then

PlawsWorth 09-13-2002 01:17 PM

look

The heatercore looks very nice and shiny, indeed. though the only bad thing exept the probs. finding one seems to be that airflow will have a hardtime going through it, is my guess correct or i'm I on dope? :-)

morphling1 09-13-2002 01:24 PM

Not realy most other heatercores have much denser fins, here is no problem with air flow. But it is a little big, but for better performance you have to sacrifice a little space :D

Morph, can U give us dimensions of the core and Lada model/year?

thx!

morphling1 09-15-2002 05:00 PM

Dimensions 26*18*6 cm . Hmm what model, what year, I realy wouldn't know that, I just went to scrap yard and they have all the cores removed from cars on one big pile, I saw this one, I was only told it was from Lada, but I din't ask more question, cos' I was happy with what I found

Puzzdre 09-15-2002 05:06 PM

good enough for me...

thx!

morphling1 09-17-2002 01:37 PM

I just stop by some car dump today and find those Opel Heater cores, wow, they looked great Corsas was a a litle smaller (square shaped) then Kaddet, but they din't have any from Ascona but I think Kaddets was exactly the same, the only thing they were 19cm wide, which is just 1cm wider than my case accept, also found some Volvo heater core, it was made the same way as those Opel ones, so this one would be good too, but again 19cm, probably will fit in most cases but my big tower is a little narrower, But I'll get Antec case which will accept those cores easily. So I'll pick one tomorrow clean it and then compare it to Ladas core.
