Here's a crazy idea: why don't we try to recruit some of those "teamless members"?

cybrsamurai 02-07-2003 11:22 AM

BigBen thats a good idea any idea how we should do that?

bigben2k 02-07-2003 11:30 AM

We'd have to get the list (here) then lookup their names in the Forums here, then see if they have an e-mail addy.

I'll help sending e-mails out, but I won't do it by myself! We'll have to get organized here... A lot of these people don't have a username.

There are more than 650 unaffiliated people that have produced more than 1'000'000 structures.;)

folding

I have a
Amd@2.700
2xamd@1.900
my duel 1900 cant run folding because they suck, lol i need to water cool them they crash way to fast and easy, but i can and will run folding on my 2.900 Amd because i have all the water cooling parts i just need to put it to geather. i duno i think thay might help a bit, once i get the duels water cooled thats 3.8gig + 2.7 gig so ill have about 6.5 gig folding think that ill help us out agenst [H]ard a bit ? :)

cybrsamurai 02-07-2003 12:13 PM

I'm with you in the emailing. Let me know how you want to work this out.

ICQ: 126892210
AIM: CybrsamuriX
email: jordan@hirshclan.com

bigben2k 02-07-2003 12:56 PM

I'll download the list into an excel file, and filter out the "no names".

What kind of production are we going to consider? Anyone over 1'000'000 ?!?

I can then split it up in 2, and send you the list, if you PM me an addy.

bigben2k 02-07-2003 01:10 PM

Out of those that produced 1'000'000 structures or more, I've isolated 230 that have a user name.

cybrsamurai 02-07-2003 01:11 PM

Sounds good Ill PM you when im back from class. around 3:00

g.l.amour 02-07-2003 01:11 PM

nice going. i'm willing to send some emails around no prob

bigben2k 02-07-2003 01:12 PM

kewl:cool:

Each one gets ... about 76 names to lookup.

These people are not on a team because the choose not to be. e-mailing them will probably just piss them off. We should be getting people that are apart of THIS site. Thats the whole idea of being on PROCOOLING's team is it not?

bigben2k 02-07-2003 01:48 PM

...but some of them probably didn't join any team, because they didn't know of one.

I'm sure that the top ten would be a waste of time, in that light. We're only 100'000'000 structures away from [H]!

Well you can try. I don't think they are that dumb though, especially the one's apart of that forum.

On another note proocooling is down to about 2,710,805 behind in daily output. That about cut it in half. I can take about 700,000 off that myself once I get things going. We need about 3million more a day to start making a come back.

Also note this is still Phase 1 of DF. If things go the way they say they are Phase 2 will start soon zeroing out the stats and starting from the begining with new client and stats setup. Would be good to have a solid start on that Phase. :)

Hua Luo Han 02-07-2003 08:30 PM

I'll try to install the client to some of the machines in my office, though most of these machines are P3 and below, but I think they'll still help. :D

Thanks to amdmb's team FAQ thread.

Running as an NT/2000/XP service

The Windows version of the client can be set up to run as a normal Windows NT service, so that it will start automatically whenever your computer starts up and run in the background until you shut down. Structures will be uploaded every 5000 still, and buffered for later upload at shutdown (so your shutdown procedure will not be delayed). It runs at low priority so other tasks will push it out of the way and so it should not noticeably slow your machine down. Be warned that it will only upload after making 5000 structures (a few hours, depending on your machine speed) so make sure you are connected to the internet when using the client as a service. Also, updates will automatically be accepted (provided they are digitally signed) in this mode and a large amount of data may be buffered if you do not connect to the network for a long period of time. To check progress while running as a service, a file called "progress.txt" will be written to the directory where the program is installed
so you can monitor its progress still.

To setup the program to work as a service:

1. Open a DOS prompt to the directory you installed the client.
2. If it is not already there, create a new file called "handle.txt" and in it type your 8 character handle followed by Enter (or alternatively, runfoldit.bat first, enter your handle when asked for it, then quit)
3. Type: foldtrajlite /install (and hit Enter)
4. The next time you reboot your machine it will start automatically

To remove the service:

1. Go to Administrative Tools -> Services
2. Find and Stop the service called Distributed Folding Project
3. Open a DOS prompt to the directory you installed the client.
4. Type: foldtrajlite /remove (and hit Enter)
5. It will not be run on your machine automatically anymore

You may install a second instance of the service by changing step 3 above from 'foldtrajlite /install' to 'foldtrajlite /install2'. Similarly, to remove this second instance, change step 4 to 'foldtrajlite /remove2'.

Note that if you wish to run two instances, you must install two full copies of the software in separate directories and install one using /install and the other /install2. Not following this procedure correctly will result in unpredictable behaviour.

Configuring the service

You should have a SERVICE.CFG file in your client directory after
following the above steps. If it is not there, remove and re-install
the service. The first line of this file must contain a number
identifying whether it is copy 1 or copy 2 of the service. Next, you
may include any of the following options in any order if you wish:

useram=1 makes use of extra RAM for improved speed
(see -rt option elsewhere in this readme); default is useram=0

priority=### where -20<=###<=20 sets the priority of the task just like the -p option (20=passive, -20=aggressive); default is 20

progress=### where 0<=###<=100 sets the update interval for the progress.txt file, like the -g option (0=disable) default is 50

uploadfreq=### where 999<=###<=10000 controls the upload frequency like the -s option; default=999=assigned from our server

connect=0 disables internet usage - use this if you are on dialup or temporarily unable to access the internet for some reason; you must eventually remove this to upload your data, but your work will be buffered until then; works the same as the -if optionl default is connect=1

uploadonly=1 behaves as the -ut option, instructing the program to upload all buffered work and then terminate. Do NOT combine with the connect=0 option! Default is uploadonly=0

now then I know about the -rt option, time for some fast folding :D

MAIN SERVER IS DOWN FOR PROTEIN CHANGEOVER
wondered why it wasnt finding the server.
is there a way to get the folding prog to skip this or will i have to wait till the server is back?

folding is 1 good way to heat up those cpu.......:evilaugh: so a good way to test those watercooling setups ;)

g.l.amour 02-10-2003 09:17 AM

normally the server down for protein changeover doesn't take too long.

thx again folks, we're already noticing the protein output going up. welcome 'n thx

Yes, I've noticed it keeps my temps up just like Prime95 did previously.
Still got some testing to do before I move my watercooling setup over from my Duron (I'm worried about water penetration, as I'm going direct die, and I noticed multiplier selection on the Duron went wonky on me the other day...)

dax 02-10-2003 10:24 AM

hmm I still have a couple of machines offline at the moment... give me a few weeks until they are assembled and in the rack and I'll add some 24/24 power, they are a bit old, but 3-4 boxes should more should help. :D

g.l.amour 02-10-2003 10:33 AM
