Oh got this pic, how far did you cut it though?

You find the closest I have. I'd have to take my system apart to get another one picture for you.
I would guess Ieft about 1.5" on |
( sorry for all the questions lol )
k 1.5inch looks right, so your just slipped the barb over the existing ones on the rad? What size did you use for yours? |
1/2"OD or 5/8"OD brass barb from Home Depot or Lowes.
|
Cool, going to home depot in a little, where can I pick up JB weld? Home depot? Ill guess gasket sealant is sold at home depot
|
yup, all of it is.

RedPhoenix,
I think your rad done in Red should look pretty good. Would look even better if you had a set of those aluminum fans like Slipknot used on his shroud, on a shroud of plexi or sheet metal. But as your modding is making use of black and red instead of most all silver a pair of red anodized aluminum fans would be even better. And more distinctive. www.so-trickcomputers.com At the top of the general fan listing there is a link to a differant page for anodized fans. While not as cheap they are very sharp in appearance, with all the work and effort you're making for this set up I'd suggest you give them a look. I have a couple of those red anodized 120mm fans with chrome blades for my build I've started. They look even better in hand than they do in the sites pics. Very sweet. Mine is going to be silver, red and black. Where yours is mostly black with red for highlights mine is equally silver & black with red for highlights. I'm also using a differant case, a Lain Li PC76 server with the cooling pump, rad + fans & res in a exterior case that the PC76 will sit on top of. Water lines to the CPU & GPU will enter/exit through the floor as will the wiring for the fans on the rad. |
I'm making use of a separate case for the cooling set up as I wish to make low noise a goal.
Both the exterior cooling loops case and the inside of the PC76 will be lined with automotive & industrial sound deadening foam. Along with making room for the sound foam the large case was chosen in order to allow for a second cooling loop later if I decide I want one or a TEC set up at a future date. |
Awesome :) Good link too
I just picked up red paint and clear spray for the heatercore. Not sure what I will do as far as the shorud. prolly black or clear. I dont know what ill do as far as the fans. I was thinking on painting the outside chasis on it black and have a clear /red led fan. much like I did here... gimme a sec to take pics |
Just painted the chasis black.. Looks cool to me

No question that would look good at night. To bad it's a toss up, the anodized will look best in light, the LED best in dark.
My lighting will be UV so I'm going with fans for in the light. I have thought about coating the chrome blades in clear UV dye though, a possible way to have both. Every modded system is a art expression. :) |
Yeah I know ! I guess Ill just test it out with certain things.
BTW I just got my barbs on with the sealant and JB weld is tommorow :) Thanks http://24.92.200.72/mods/hcore%5Fmod/seal9.jpg Soon as everything is dry, I will paint it and make the shround once I get 120mm fans |

I wish I could offer a link to a differant site, but the guy that owns So-Trick computers buys those aluminum fans and has them anodized himself I think. At least that is the only site I know of that has them. Brian256, You're right about the LED fans being hard to find with good performance. That was another reason I had for thier (aluminum fans) use, very quiet while also moving a good amount of air & very good looking. The anodized fans So-Trickcomputers sells are the exact same fan, just .......anodized colors gold, purple, red & "Ice Blue", very same performance specs though. That site has a pretty wide range of items for modding a computer with. |
RedPhoenix, it looks darned potential! Looking forward to upcoming pics.
If You go for a sheet metal shroud (it feels sooo good to build computer parts with sledge and anvil) don“t forget to paint it with good old primer first, before the clolored paint. You will get a much more even result with primer. The metal is quite hard for the paint to stick to, resulting in a very uneven thickness of the paint, and it will look a sort of blushing. Quite ugly, in fact. Primer solves all this, gives the paint a much more forgiving surface to stick to. regards Mikael S. |
Alright, im looking around for fans at the moment. Hm...
|
Im a cheap ass... Really I have to save for christmas presents.. lol
So I think ill go for 4 of these... http://www.pcmods.com/product.asp?0=235&1=239&3=415 And just do what I did here... http://24.92.200.72/mods/5.jpg What do you think? Ill just put red leds or something in the shroud or next to it. |
