- We will be switching to a new protein on Tuesday, October 28, at 11 AM EST. The main difference for this protein will be scoring purely based on energy, and not RMSD - i.e., we won't be "cheating" in scoring the structures. Note that this update will include an update to the client as well as a new protein to work on.
This is a significant update as, if I understand correctly, we are doing "real" work after this update and will be done with the R&D work.

Heh. Checked one of my comps and the pump was not turning. MBM said 127C?!?!?!?!?!?!? The block was near the point of melting the plastic top (couldn't touch it HOT!), and yet it was still happily crunching D.F. and not locked up!?!?!?!? I find it distressing the C.O.P. did nothing on th ASUS A7V8X-X. I find it amazing the XP1700 not only didn't fry but was still 100%functionable and crunching D.F. at a 100% load.... I wish I could say I was making this up and/or am drunk but I cannot. Crazy stuff.... Anyway one comp offline for now....

LOL, I did! Thats what made me look things over. Ever smell that just starting to burn plastic smell? I then noticed things were a little to quiet. That was the HydroThruster 500 on this system and you know how loud that damn thing is. Somehow the loop got vapor locked or something. I thought I had the problem fixed but buess not.... I am sure MBM was off several C as that core "should" have ignited at 127C. The block was very hot to the touch, even the first few inched of hose was hot. I still cannot belive the thing was still running!

I am going to use that CPU in a quiet PC project!!!

jaydee 10-21-2003 10:39 PM

It also appears 6th place for the team is coming soon. Maybe tonight...

DigitalPirate 10-22-2003 12:14 AM

Welll...
If it wasn't for the hourly M$ Win2K crashes, courtesy of DirectX 9.0b on a GF4Ti4200, I'd have some nice little stats off the dual 2.8, but as anything kills it right now, until I can get DX9 out of the system, I cannot help fold. Probably two days until I get it all stable and happy again.(Reinstall if neccesary...)

Joe 10-22-2003 12:39 AM

Were in 6th place now! :)

Boli 10-22-2003 01:34 AM

And it is all thanks to me.. Oh Joe helped a bit - you know moral support ;P.

(Well done Joe :D)

Joe 10-24-2003 01:15 AM

I will fire it up tomorrow night... was out of work a lil bit the last 2 days and didnt want to run it.

but even without me doing anything much for the last night and tonight now we are still holding 6th ;)

satanicoo 10-25-2003 12:43 AM

I have made very litle points now, the P4 has shutted down. for a while.

That made me reallise, when it is a fast protein, AMD are as fast a a Pentium.
But on a slower protein, P4 seems to be much faster.
I would like to see others thoughts anyway.

Boli 10-25-2003 03:36 AM

I think this is because on a slower protein there are longer float numbers involved and such where it is better to have a large cache (don't P4 have a large cache?).

So maybe we should all switch to the Barton core to get the best of both worlds - I hear the 2500+ chip is a good overclocker.

i dont seem to see any stat updates as of 2003-10-25 02:00:00AM so a days of work has either not been uploaded or the stats have not been updated? cpu is still at 100% so i am giogn to assume i am geting new units or something who knows i notecied this is the case for all stats for all users and groups?

Groth 10-26-2003 12:21 AM

One of the cgi servers that does the stats at DF central is dying. This is the third time in four days that it has gone down. It doesn't help that they're also in the process of re-doing the entire website...

You are still getting credit for your folding - it is only the team stats/third-party stats that are affected. Individual stats are still available at http://www.distributedfolding.org/login.html.

thanks for the info how do you know this is there a link that you have that has like service / server status? or are you in with da man

Groth 10-26-2003 08:25 AM

The Distributed Folding site has a barebones news section, and more importantly, a link to the Official Support Forum.

Joe is da man with the best RMS at the moment!

Joe 10-27-2003 01:27 PM

Stats are starting to populate also on Arachnid :)

26 million points in one update, not to bad ;) hehehe

10 million more than the nearest other person in folding for the weekend it looks like. and pushes us deep into the 700 million range ;)

satanicoo 10-27-2003 04:13 PM

3rd :D!

Im not going for ya Joe, i will spare ya ;)

jaydee 10-27-2003 09:56 PM

Remeber guys, there is a new CLIENT and protein coming out tomorrow morning. Try and check up on your comps to make sure the new client updated itself correctly.

Joe 10-28-2003 08:37 AM

Not goign to be folding for a bit this week, going to test the new client, and see if others have issues before rolling it out to my folding army.

iggiebee 10-28-2003 08:46 AM

WOW, we are officially in 5th place.

Guess this puts us in a state of equilibrium for the time being, unless some "darkhorse" comes up with a ton of DF crunching machines ;)

Joe 10-28-2003 08:53 AM

We are not that much slower than the ones directly above us, but we are not gaining much ground on them when we are faster.

jaydee 10-28-2003 09:44 AM

I find it interesting that after the stats got fixed my output doubled... I noticed everyone elses has shot up just the same.....

Anyway, new Client and Protein comming in the next few hours.

Check the time-stamps -- stats updates haven't been hourly. I'm guessing things will be a bit wonky for a couple days.

Joe 10-28-2003 11:03 AM

wonky, sounds like a highly technical term ;)
