Your correct Groth, looks like every other hour which would explain the double output. Damn...:D

I hear the new protein is 102? So it should be a slower than the last few. Hopefully the updates have/will go OK.

EDIT:

Correction,
Quote:

The new protein is called 1YCC and comes from baker's yeast.
It has 108 residues. We have worked on this protein in the past, and now would like to get results for it with the new algorithm.

Since it's almost twice as long as the previous protein we worked on, it will take a while longer to crunch through
Just for a note I might be shutting my comps down for a couple weeks. Did that last month and knocked $25 off the power bill.... If I save $25 a month for 4 months I can buy a faster CPU or something. :D

I guess they made that so his servers wont be so much stressed -- to prevent another one to dye.

Also, i heard that the HT on P4s werent speeding folding by that much.
I made a test on one.
Made a benchmark with only one instance of foldit working, and another with it on.

This is the result:

At least one of my comps updated but only 406 points the last upload is a little distressing. :D

Woohoo;

iggiebee 10-30-2003 11:49 AM

OK...so we are out of the 5th place, and sliding back fast.

Joe where are you?... any body home???

Joe 10-30-2003 06:17 PM

Prep for my LAN, all my powers down till the end of the weekend. Sorry guys, we will re-take 5th, they cant run fast with the new protein form us ;)

Blackeagle 11-02-2003 02:26 PM

I've just noticed this. ProCooling has gone from 5th to 7th place.

I'm back to help.

Have you tried runnig two of the clients on that machine?

I beleive I saw something about doing that at Xtreme. Was supposed to run slower on each client individually but more total output in the end. Or something like that............:D

satanicoo 11-02-2003 04:51 PM

Yes, that image is edited.
I putted one alone and then both of them.

Those are the variances.

So if I understand you right one instance of the client was faster for you than two?

Did you devote 150 mg of RAM for each?

Just try'n to understand what works best for a P4 rig, I'm thinking of buying a Intel rig vs a AMD64, price drop makes them look pretty good.

Sorry to say I don't have enough points to regain 5th place for the team. Will have to wait for Joe to get back I guess. Will at least make regaining 5th faster when Joe does get back to full power.

satanicoo 11-03-2003 07:44 AM

Yes, but only slightly.

The pic that i have atached, are both scores.
The first one, runned alone.
The second, runned with another instance at the same time

It raised very very litle.
Both with 150 megs.

I could say it gained at least 90% speed for using 2 instances instead of 1 (guesstimate).

jaydee 11-03-2003 01:16 PM

Just for a note I will be shutting my systems down tonight as my multiple computer in one water cooling loop is taking form rapidly now. I am going to stuff 3 comps into a large box I am building and they all will be cooled off one water cooling loop with blocks I am making (2 already done http://forums.procooling.com/vbb/sho...&threadid=8240).

Now is a good time to do this as it looks like I will have about 2 month to work on it (might take that long) while this slow protein is going. Once it is done and operational I should have 500-1000 more mhz out of those comps and might even add a 4th for another 1600mhz. But to early to tell right now.

Joe 11-06-2003 11:49 PM

Forgot to run the samn stuff tonight.... and for some reason my VMware session to VPN into work has gone broken... so sucks, tomorrow I wont forget :)

Joe 11-10-2003 09:40 AM

Well got some bad news, I am out of town all week so I MAY get some crunching done on my "farm" but may not depending how busy I am this week.

had a good run this weekend atleast ;)

jaydee 11-14-2003 12:47 PM

Even without Joe's mega farm we are still are holding our own in 5th. Looks like the Genome Collective is out producing us, but being it is a slow protein their not an imediate threat.

Joe 11-14-2003 11:44 PM

hehe Got back in town... and tonight I found out what happened to my VM ware session I used to VPN into work... the disk it was on failed in my server.. been failed since the 6th, just throwing mass read errors.

Yep, I only realized it was dead after copying 30GB of data to it that I didnt have a copy of... coolness

Bah, hate when shit like that happens. I once plugged in a 120mm fan that I just did the 7volt mod to (so I thought) while the system was running and instantly killed my hard drive, which of course had everything on it with no backup. Of course back then 5gig drives were all the rage so I didn't loose to much. I had about 6 days of already crunched SETI units on it waiting for upload. That hurt more than anything else. :D I have a bad habit of learing stuff the hard way. Namely being a dumbass....

unless it is my brothers STUPID **** software firewall that has **** my netwoerk multiple times but accroding to him its not possible for his s/w firewall to interfer with other stuff what a pain in my ass my network runsl ike shit becase he has the softwar fires on his 2 machines 2 diffrent ones with completle diff configs that just stop 85 % of network services i cant use dhcp cant use netbios cand use dns
i can go on and on and on
but he refuse to acnolage that anything is wrong

Clone! Don't deleting anything yet! There is still hope for recovering your points.

Look for a file named poipi9ac_7_poipi9ac_protein_236_0000029.val
and make a copy named poipi9ac_7_poipi9ac_protein_236_0000029_min.val. You want to have a pair of identical files with those two names. Make a backup copy of the two files first, in case you duplicate the wrong one. Try uploading again.

If that fails, from a command line change to your folding directory, and run
Code:

foldtrajlite -purgeuploadlist 1
foldtrajlite -ut

You may need to run that pair of commands a bunch of times before it works.

Good Luck!

I guess. If your auto uploading it doesn't really matter as all your good results are already uploaded. If you upload every now and then then try what Groth said to try and revcover lost units.

Groth 11-16-2003 06:42 PM

With a "xxxxx.val is corrupt, missing or has been tampered with" error, the program will continue to fold, and will buffer the results until the error is cleared up. Not a fatal error. Hence the multiple copies of the set of error messages -- it finishes a generation, tries to upload, throws an error, folds the next generation.

On a friends machine (if I'm called upon for tech service, I sneak DF in :) ) a couple of months ago, over five hundred generations were buffered in an identical situation. All uploaded after repairs.

The .val and _min.val files are essentially identical. One can be substituted for the other in an emergency. If both are corrupt, the -purgeuploadlist command will let you skip generations until good data is found.

Edit: I just looked at Clone's stats. A 27,000 point update. Good to see the error cleared up and the points on the board.

*laughs* I'm realy enjoying this slow protein, its like watching a race in slow motion.

I have been viaing for the elusive 15th place and I'm slowly watching my appraoch on Yoshana for ages whilst all the while tring to stay out of Beest's cluches. All the while plagued by recent computer problems.

In a fast protein the matter would have been decided in a day but I must say team concerns aside, its "Chariots of Fire" down in mid table here :D.
