@ kibbler:

I qualified in Holland, after 5 years. Came to the UK where I had to do additional experience and exam work to prove my qualifications are equal to those in the UK, which took another few years. In the UK training takes 3 years for first degree, then 2-3 years working as an assistant, another 3 years for the clinical degree which allows you to practice.

Work is generally tough but versatile. There are some risks involved; you work in some areas with extremely distressed, often dysfunctional, sometimes dangerous people. I've had to face off someone waving an axe once; I occasionally also deal with suicidal people.

It pays reasonably but not great when comparing training and job difficulty to commercial industry; but pensions in the NHS are good. You get to be your own captain a lot, and work to your own insights. You can have huge informal power in the system as you're the only profession that can challenge its dynamics.

28- been in computers for about 12 years, been modding and water cooling for about 6 years.

Been in the machining a little over a year,

It has become both, a hobby and source of small extra income.

I have been out of the loop for a few weeks, But looks like Im gonna get to be able to be back again.

Watch out, I have some interesting thoughts, and designs.

Teamed up with Dtek to brings dreams to life, and have teamed up with JayDee to bring the small cnc realm to lite. and show how stuff gets done.

Teamed up with Pro Cooling (Joined the forum) to pass on ideas, gain knowledge. So as U can see we are all partners in one way or another.

Fixittt 08-05-2002 06:30 PM

very very slowly. almost going backwards. But hey, there is a site there, with some good info.

Really good info if you want to have a block made, and you are thinking about going to a machine shop to do it. Check it out.

Thanks for the kind words!! Well it's more of "applied psychology" as in screwing with people's minds to alter their behavior to do something we want.

20 - gonna hit the big 21 in September.

I'm studying Computer and Electrical Engineering, right now I'm working as a Co-op for Rockwell Automation. I work with a team of engineers who develop industrial computers (everything from scratch). Today I witnessed see my first product testing, Called "Shock And Vib", which is where we take our product and subject it to different G values (saw 50G's today and we broke the machine) with up to one inch in different directions.

Zoo 21 in September; congrats. I haven't been 21 for 30 years.

I am 51 now. Built my first computer last summer. Watercooled it this spring.

Watercooling was simple, BIOS, Operating Systems, and Drivers still frustrate the crap out of me.

I have been an Electrical Contractior, self employed, since 1977. That's 25 years in business on September 1st; Zoo was a -4 then!

Anyway I find this stuff fun and interesting. And there is no heavy lifting, rain, snow, or mud to deal with! Best of all never again at the mercy of Dell or Compaq. :D
