Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Yep.
Thanks for that info, I just did that.
4 blinks, full reset.
Assist 3.0 asked me to configure default settings including password etc.
There was a error message during config "Cannot set language, you should use the web interface to set it", otherwise everythign was fine.
Tried 2.4->3.0 upgrade, same error message :(

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Some times the units have to be in factory default settings with JBOD. Don't ask me why, Its a flook with their system.

You are at the latest/final release bios for a 4100.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

This is/was a RAID5 configuration. But yeah, still doing a reset did not change the upgrade status to fail or succeed.

The message I get from Assist, "This file is not a valid upgrade for your server" appears instantly after clicking "apply" in the upgrade box. (Using either assist 3.0 or 3.4, and with fw upgrade from dell for eitiher 3.0 or 3.4. bummer.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

What wrong with it?
Raid 0 failure?
Raid 1 Mirror broken?
Or just dead?

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Won't boot.

System light blinks once for every 2 disk light blinks. I believe that means it's trying to download an OS.

When I pulled the drives from this appliance, I didn't realize the OS was on the drives. The drives have been formated several times over at this point. I have some larger drives I'd just like to stick in (160GBs). I'm pretty sure if I get the OS (any 2.x or greater; I have the snap_sys_805.sup file) I should be able to use "dd" and get the appliance up again.

Thanks!!

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

You will need to copy the boot tracks from a working Snap or image file to the hd to get the unit up and running again. This is done with dd. Do you have another snap laying around that boots. Any one will work execpt a 1000v1.

You already have the OS (805) which will be needed for large disk support.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

I do not have another snap server.

I'm hoping someone can share a copy of the OS with me.

Please and thanks!!

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

The .sup file is not a direct image you can "dd" into the device.
As bluef said, you need the image off a working box.
But I don't know where to get that. I just got mine working last weekend.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Need a little more help gang.

used the dd comand and my snap 2200 is online. Trying to use the "con dev for 10000 /reinit" command and I get. "Invalid device id 10000 requested" I've tried 10010 as well.

When I go into "Disk Utilities", "View Disk Status" I'm told no disks found.

The disk is a WD 30 Gig set to master on in the top port.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

blue68f100 04-17-2006 09:46 PM

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

The cmd is "co de format 10000 /reinit" Its the right cmd if dd worked and the drive booted.

A 2200 will not boot with out a drive.

Are any other drives installed?
What was the original drive config Raid 0,1, JBOD?

Some WD drive have a EIDE, snaps don't play well with them.
Does the WD have a option for singe drive?

DelMarLocal 04-17-2006 10:31 PM

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

I got it. Thanks.

On this WD drive, the drive must be set to cable select, not master.

Thanks for all the help.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Now this might sound weird, but is there any way to load/add/whatnot codepages to this thing? Now that I "upgraded" from JP version of snap software, it refuses to save anything other than us-ascii filenames into the shares.

Is there a way to add(?) or replace one of hte codepages it ships with (437, 850, 865) with somethign else? (like 932 for sjis)...

blue68f100 04-18-2006 07:58 AM

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Jacobus, 3.4.805 will not do you any good. That unit does not suport large disk (>137gig).

Stoff, what size drives are you planing on installing. You will need to boost the ram to a min 128.

Havn't had this request before, so I don't know where they are located at.

If you can find the directory where they are stored you could add to the set. Use debug with "ls" cmd to get a directrory listing. If you still have a drive with the old files you could transfter them across.

The Snap OS is a FreeBSD offspring. Most of the unix cmds work but not all. Whereis does not.

The drive will work, stick with Seagates or Hitachi, they have the fewer problem. A user just ran into a problem with the power supply being to weak for 4 x 500gigs. Buy the ones with the least current draw on startup.

I think I have a 2100, it has two 10gb drives. I am looking to drop two 200gb drives in it. Also can you use differant drive brands just as long as they are the same size? Thanks for the help!

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Need to know what your vitals are, HW, BIOS, SN.
Also need to know if its a v2 2000.
The v2 models have DIMM ram where v1 has Simms. V1 does not support large disk due to HW and BIOS (1.2.180) restriction.

How do I find out what version bios im running? and is it a standard dimm/simm? Do you mean "SN" as in serial number? Thanks again for your help!

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

You can click on the rectangular "snap" logo in upper left corner of the web administartion GUI to find the bios, sw revision and serial number.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Ok this is what I have;
Software - 3.1.603
Bios - 2.0.252
Serial - 44009
Hardware 2.0.0

So what would be my options for the snap? Can I put a 160gb drive it?

Thanks for the help,

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

With the proper OS it will work. Your serial no is past the problem child zone. If you are planning on runing raid. Install a match set of ATA100, ide drives.
