BTW: that website I linked earlier, for the scanned pics, is a good place to buy a heatercore on-line: no shipping, and no tax.
[removed bad! link] I just picked up #304.:) |
I have my eye on some of the copper/brass radiators now that I started poking around on Transpro. A 27" long rad would probably not be too shabby for my peltier system (I bet I could go with quiet fans then :) )
|
Hummm... but they're going to be pricey, brand new.
You can check out the whole price list from leakycar, to give you a rough idea. Unless you plan to be scavenging? |
Perhaps. I would assume that since radiators usually have glycol in them (at least in Canada) that they would tend to be a bit better preserved in a relatively new car?
I would need to find one totaled but not from a frontal collision I guess :) |
Don't they still put heater cores up under the dash?
|
Yes, often accessible from the passenger side, more or less...
|
Thanks, Ben. I'm going to try to add the remaining pics into the mix, along with other dbase entries that I may glean from that site. It may be a couple of days, though.

Hi,
Any chance for searching by using vehicle make/model/year? I can search by heatercore ref number but not the other way round. This is pretty essential (at least for me :D ). Many thanks. |
You know, I thought of adding that feature, and found a host of reasons why it wouldn't be valuable. The primary reason is that nearly every auto parts website allows you to search for parts by vehicle. The secondary reason is that since we are trying to find a part by size so it can fit your case and you won't know the size of the core in a particular car ahead of time, it doesn't make much sense to do a reverse lookup unless you specifically know the size of a certain vehicle's core. If that was the case, though, you could look it up by size because you already know the dimensions.
If you need to look them up by vehicle, try some of the other commercial links listed in this topic and they all will have them arranged that way. |
Hi, you have some good points.
But in the UK, all (I mean all) online auto parts sites, as well as eBay, only shows you, like, "this is a radiator for Toyota Corona MK2 1974 and it is only 10pounds". And you think, "oh great! 10pounds only!" but then you begin to realise you don't know how big that is. My hypothesis is that, people do not only find a part by size, but also find a part by price. This is especially true in the UK as these things are very expensive over here, comparing to the US of A. Thanks. |
You'd need to make a UK only database. I doubt AS is interested :D ...
There are'nt many UK cars useing Cu/brass rads anymore. Older Fiesta's (apparently), Cavaliers and a few other vauxhall variants (Opel Cadets/Kadets)... |
this will help
http://www.frigair.com/radiatori/riscald.pdf this lists most european makes of cars and the heater cores that go with them. if you look at the pictures in the odf you will see the rad type ra is copper and al is ali. the copper ones are audi 100 ,200 ,a6 1994-1997, citroen c25 1985-1990 , c35 fiat 127 , 128 , panda , ducato 85-90 ford fiesta 1976-1983 , fiesta mk2 1984-1988 , transit mk 2, mk3, mk4 , mk5 iveco daily 78-89 opel kadett d , kadett e , corsa B (these names are differant in the uk) look for nova cores. peugot j5 renault r5 tubi , r9/11 , espace tubi 84-91 , express tubi 85> , rapid tubi scania 113 - 142 - 143 seat fura the nova is a perfect fit for a cheiftech case. |

I honestly can't thank you enough! :D This is what I have always been looking for. Now, looks like I need an old Fiesta heater matrix. It should be easier to find then Nova :D Again, thank you very much. P.S. ra is copper, and al is aluminium. Then what is ot? |
Brass? Those are the three most common materials ....
|
UPDATE:
Minor updates were made to the zip mirror files to make it a bit more user friendly (I got some letters from users). If you are hosting a mirror could you please make the changes? They can also be source ripped from my mirror on the following pages: instructions.htm heatercoreinline.asp heatercorelinked.asp It's just a change in the instructions and labelling to make it more idiot-proof, so it's not a big deal. |
Anyway you could make it no dependent of Frontpage extensions? Prolly too much work heh?
|
I'm not sure. I'm using MS Access and FPDB retrieval tools. To convert to MySQL and PHP ... *shudders*. Really all you need to do is install the frontpage 2000 extensions which are available for IIS and Apache (Lin&Win).
|
The conversion rate on the heatercore database is wrong. It should be 1 inch = 25.4 milimeters
|
And I have ??? I'd be more than happy to fix any errors since many can be search/replaced.
I'm considering porting this to MySQL in the near future for you potential mirrorees. I'll let you know what happens as I experiment. |
It says 22 on here
|
Hrm, good catch. I used a converter when I did the math, and that's what I thought you were referring to. Will fix. Have fixed.
|
I found a pretty good list of heater cores.
http://www.overclockers.com/tips1031/ 2-651 looks pretty good. Could put a pair of 120mm side by side. 2-696 is even better 8x5 inches. Semi-related info: I bought this on ebay. Looks nice, hope it works :D http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ME:B:EOAB:US:6 |
Some ijit on Overclockers linked my database directly in article 769 on July 7, 2003. Because of this, I'm moving the dbase off of my current host to a public server. I am going to have to make a request to you all: please, if you reference the database, link to www.airspirit.net rather than the dbase directly. This just ends up causing you grief when I end up moving it, and it causes me grief by not knowing how active it is. That front page is devoid of ads, popups, or any other annoying nonsense: it is simply an online favorites list that links to articles I've written or that I endorse, tools such as this, hosted forums, and sites that kick ass.
Please help me with this, guys. edit: the dbase will be inaccessable at the old address as of 1630 PST on 7/8/03. |
FWIW...
I had to trim the tubes off of my 2-304, and the stubs left are 1/2" brass pipes, the same as if they were copper tubes. I'll be soldering 1/2" fittings on them. The point is that some tubes are enlarged to make a specific connection, and that it may not have anything to do directly with the size of the tube that's soldered on the tank. |
Where is it on http://www.airspirit.net/ ? Am i dense cause I don't see it.
|
Due to the ISP screwing up the DNS entry, randomly www.airspirit.net and airspirit.net will point to either the old (unworking) IP or new (working) one. This should be resolved quick or I'm going to go nuclear. At any rate, the IP address is 68.168.65.180 while the DNS entry is unfscking itself.

Is www.airspirit.net dead or what? |
I'd be happy to host this on Procooling as well if you'd like airspirit. Perhaps Joe can even get you an airspirit.procooling.com?
