Sorry to hear that it didn't work out.

Do you plan to use your own tubing this time? I'm wondering because copper tubing is fairly easily available at any hardware store, but I was wondering if there was anything special with the stuff you used.

|PuNiSh3R| 08-12-2002 10:40 AM

I did use 1/4" soft copper..

The problem was I had to solder 1/4" copper to 1/4" copper lol.. So I used a piece of 3/8" copper.. slipped it over..

This time I need to make sure all of my surfaces are clean in and out before I go and solder..

This time I work it's the professional time.. not the sloppy shady mechanic work I've been doing.

If you are getting my drift.. I am trying to make a "marketable" unit.. :)

bigben2k 08-12-2002 10:53 AM

Yup...

What about that reducer/nozzle between the hot and cold side? How would you gauge that? Where would you get it?

|PuNiSh3R| 08-12-2002 12:12 PM

You mean the dryer?

Compressor > Condensor > Dryer > Cap Tube > Evaporator > Compressor

I believe you are talking about the dryer right? It catches any moisture or any other crap in the system..

bigben2k 08-12-2002 12:34 PM

No I meant the cap tube. What's a dryer?

|PuNiSh3R| 08-12-2002 05:10 PM

cap tube is the big round thing.. after the condensor.. a tube will come out and go into a bigger tube thing.. it will be like 3" long.. then from there the little tiny cap tube comes out.. that's the dryer..

You are asking me where you can buy cap tube?

Check at your local HVAC shops.. or refrigeration repair shops.. mom and pop places are usually nice enough to help you along..

Don't expect much during the summer though.. they are usually swamped with work because of the heat n all..

That is why I just learned this stuff myself! lol

airspirit 08-12-2002 05:35 PM

"Yah, Ma Huvak? I needs sum pahts so Ise c'n build me a fridge fo' mah Compooter, 'kay? Whatcha got 'atll fitta Athlon?"

I can see how that would end! Though, interestingly enough, I've found most hardware store types are intrigued by people doing crazy stuff like us and bend over backwards to help ... if anything, just to see if we can do it.

|PuNiSh3R| 08-12-2002 08:23 PM

heh.. You got it ALL wrong dude.. the only reason they want to help you so much is because they know you'll be back.. and back.. and back.. I've put more money into home depot.. shit I could of just bought 30% of their F'in stock probably.. lol

airspirit 08-13-2002 11:06 AM

Now that you mention it, that makes perfect sense. It's like all the custom electrical sh!t I put on my box ... I swear the Rat Hack guys get a wee bit moist whenever I walk into the store and head for the component isle. After all, who else is going to buy all that junk? (I currently have fan controllers, pump relay and switching, Vmods out the wazoo, and I'm collecting junk to build a diode reader/temp display).

I figured I ought to let ya'll know that danner 12's don't seem to like the cold, when I put mine in my -20c water/antifreeze and plugged it in nothing happened. I took it out and let it warm up and tried it in the water, worked super.

My guess is that it has a temperature sensor on it, and I've found that alot of times temperature sensors designed for heat and not cold report strange things when they get very cold.

So anyhow you can't use danner 12's with a really cold setup. Which sux to find out after you buy it, oh well I'll have to figure out something else to do with it.

|PuNiSh3R| 08-13-2002 12:42 PM

Just mod it dude.. The pump will work.. I know on my via aqua when temps get really cold i have to switch the pump on and off a couple of times to get it started..

000 08-13-2002 05:18 PM

Well I tried switching it on and off lots it just sat there compeletely quite. Not sure how I would mod it, it's all encased in a chunk of epoxy.

|PuNiSh3R| 08-13-2002 05:40 PM

spend 20 dollars and get a via aqua 1300 and be happy :)

000 08-13-2002 06:55 PM

Oh I've already got a danner 7 (700gph) that does work, was trying to overcome the viscosity with the 12 (1200gph), just ran into that unfortunate problem.

|PuNiSh3R| 08-13-2002 07:05 PM

i'll give ya 5 bux for the danner 12! lol

000 08-13-2002 07:11 PM

Hehe, I think I may use it on my other computer to power an evaporative cooler I made.

|PuNiSh3R| 08-13-2002 09:31 PM

um.. hmm.. eeh.. hmmm

I got my friends digital camera tonite.. so like I'll take pics tomorrow.

|PuNiSh3R| 08-14-2002 10:11 AM

Hey guys.. I'll be writting up some phase change articles on www.geeksonline.org

EDIT: Nevermind geeksonline.. I forgot they mergered with http://www.cyphersshack.com/

So I will be writting for Cyphers Shack...

It's a small site just starting up and I know one of the makers of the site. I agreed to do some articles on pelts and phase change shiet.

I'll probably do them in a week or two.. Depending on how my system comes along.

Which.. Btw I will be testing it out today.. :) I am just putting some final silicon on my resevior/evaporator unit..

I am using a resevior from the Gemini line up.. It is the black thing with all of the copper tubes in it.. So the resevior has a bunch of holes in it.. So I had to cover those holes so water didn't leak out.. anyway I'll take pics of everything then. Right now I am testing my condensor for leaks and to make sure my solder job was good.. I have it in a vacuum.. And so far so good.. But things will change once there is a 140PSI in it :)

I will take some pics of the entire thing.. I have no place to upload them though and I can't upload them to this site cuz they would be to big in dimension.

000 08-15-2002 12:54 PM

Well since the danner 12 didn't work I decided to go with the acetone solution and the danner 7. So I guess I'll be the first to test this out.

Btw if one of ya'll decides to use acetone and you also have foam insulation be really careful when you pour it. I managed to get a drop on the outside of my ice chest and it dissolved a much bigger hole than you would expect (about the size of a silver & 1/2" deep). That's if your ice chest is made of polystyrene (which most are), also the spray foam gets affected some also, not nearly as much though just kinda makes it mushy feeling.

Anyhow It'll be interesting to see what my temperature is once I get everything else put back together.

|PuNiSh3R| 08-17-2002 01:28 PM

I am having NO success using this unit as a water chiller.. the compressor is to weak.. I am going to try it as an air conditioner though :)

I have a few thoughts in mind..

Sunday is our garbage night and I am going to go out and look for a good window AC or a dehumidifer.. yank the compressor out of that.. looking for 1/8HP to 1/3HP.. don't want to use no moer then 230w..

Since I can fill an R-22 system with 134a .. with out a problem.. That is what I will do.

If that works good.. I might use R290.. which is propane.. which performs even better.. I'd do like a 45/55 mixture of 134a and propane.. anyway.. ta-ta
