Sorry bout beating you out on the bidding there bigdawginva :D
But it looks like you got 2 more chances to get one....... |
You guys better have some monstrous pumps for those giants... the pressure drop is astronomical. I am happier with the 4120, fits in my case, has good lucks, and very good performance(compared to HCs). Haven't actually hooked it up yet, waiting to get a block.
Airspirit, can I recommend getting 2 AC caravels, then using a ceiling fan controller to control noise? Works well for me, at the lowest setting, there is only noise from the fan bearings. Very quiet, but not silent. OT: Is there any way to reduce bearing noise? Can I rebalance them? |
My 350 GPH pump is doing awesome ... better than through my BIX. I don't think I'll have flow problems after all. The fittings were a b!tch to buy, though.

Lytron PDFs. I assumed they were common knowledge by now, sorry 'bout that. Here's a link: http://www.lytron.com/reg/files/2003...gers_44-51.pdf You will need to create a login to access it.
PS: Why did you edit out your previous post? |

In my config I am going to use 2 48v volt 10" comair-rotron fans running at 24v as I bought a 4 amp 24v PS from MPJA.com for $3.95 I am currently running a Modine microchannel rad about the size of your 4000 series with 2 24v rotrons @ 12v and like you only have the bearing noise.......Hopefully the 48's at 24 will be the same. I dont know of anything that you can do for the bearing noise but on mine it is so quiet I have to put my ear close to the case to hear them...... |

What I meant was that I seem to be getting better flow through the Lytron 6320 than through my BIX, and this using a 350 GPH Danner Supreme pump. For all the doomsayers out there, this means I'm getting less resistance than from the BIX, which means that my project will be fine. This doesn't seem to give near the resistance the web site says it will. I don't have solid numbers on that, but hooking one rad up after the other demonstrated the flow difference, and the Lytron beat out the BIX hands down.

would a single 120mm sunnon do fine on a 4120?

This thing cools like a mother, and doesn't have the flow restriction that the Lytron site said it would. I'm using a 350 GPH pump and even with a net height of over 3.5 ft and numerous 90s and such, I am still getting much better cooling than through a BIX (and this is with a weak ass desk fan blowing on the radiator, so with good fans it would do better). These things are sweet. Check out my thread on the Lytron 37deg. JIC fittings though, since you can either cut off the fittings that come with the thing, or pay out the ass for fittings that are compatible. Just a warning.
On a personal note, if you're ever through Moscow and want to take a look at my psycho project with that radiator, just let me know and you're more than welcome. This is definitely something you don't see every day. |

Let me know when. Just give me some warning so I can give you directions.

You got it;)
|
Heh, and I just got two Comair Rotron Caravel 550 CFM fans for it for just under $40. Mwahahaha! I don't think I'll have any problem letting that radiator breathe. I just have to find a way to cut the fan holes.
|
$40 for both?? That's a great deal, assuming they are new. I got my Caravel for about $60. I would be wary of used ones because those fans do tend to die eventually, and used ones often come from harsh industrial environments. You never know what shape the bearings are in.
Hope you got good ones, and when are we gonna see some pics of this monstrosity?? ;) |
These are new in factory boxes, sold surplus. These are also the models with the chromey looking fan guards on them. Schweet deal, I think.
|
I've got an article cooking. I'll have pictures attached to a rough draft of it tomorrow, and I'll post the links for everyone to view and give input, before I put my first PC on permanently.
|
Wow, that is an awesome deal. I wish mine came with a fan grill! I'd never thought I'd need it until my mouse wire got stuck in the blades during a BF1942 match!!
Was this eBay auction or can you let us in on where you stole these suckers?;) |
It was Ebay ... I bought them from a user called RadioTr. The first cost 21.50, and the second (outside of the auction, was going to be a seperate auction) cost 18.00 plus the extra shipping. I have it all being shipped cross country via UPS for about $50 total.
I may have extra fan grills when I'm done. I only need them on the outside surface, and these have both the inside and outside grills. I may be able to hook you up with a pair, depending on how this turns out (i.e., how close water-filled hoses get to my spinning fan blades!). |

Look to see if you can't find the right plugs at Radio Shack for those terminals. Then buy some low gauge wire, crimp it to the plugs, and connect the other ends to a power cord. You can usually find power cords with bare leads at the hardware store.
|
I just realized that in the setup I have with just one computer on the cooling loop, it doesn't matter whether or not my desk fan is blowing across the radiator. It cools equally well both ways. I'm looking forward to seeing what difference the Caravels make. The loudest component in my system currently is my HDD. I can't hear my case fans running at all, and I have 4 of them (2x80mm@5V->in, 2x80mm@temp controlled V->out through PSU (Antec Truepower 480).
This 6320 would be perfect for somebody trying to make a silent PC, if they could accomodate the size. Most of mine isn't open to air flow and I'm still cooling better fanless than with a BIX. |
Thanks for the info Koslov.
Man, someone paid $152.50 for one tonight. I should feel good about my $71 one. That's more than I paid for the MCS. Gotta love Ebay sometimes. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...789836920&rd=1 |
I also emailed Nidec for a source for the power cords as well. These are TA450AC Ball Bearing Fans 105cfm 120mm 3200rpm. I will probably swap them out for Panaflo L1As until I can rig or purchase a power cord.
|
Do you know how to solder? Go to a hardware store, buy a three prong plug for $0.49, then go to Radio Haxor and buy some medium gauge wire. Solder the sucker up and you're all set. For added fun, put in a fan controller inline. Total project cost, with controller: $14.
|
Will do, thanks. Well, 3 Lytron items for $238.35. Can't complain. Time to start working on my first WC project.
HE w/fans $71 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...788580373&rd=1 MCS $144.85 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...787791782&rd=1 HE (large) $22.50 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...788464115&rd=1 |
