I think I'm gonna try out HydrX, Pep Boys is the only real close auto parts store around here and like you said, they won't carry Hyperlube until March :( well wait a sec, I just looked around and HydrX is UV green; I plan to go red in my system, so that won't work. I also found WaterChill Anti-Algae Fluid & Innovatek innovaProtect Fluid, I wonder how they will work; the Innovatek only protects against corrosion thought, and the WaterChill only against algae and bacteria. Mixing, anyone :D? I don't have the $21 :(.

It is highly unlikely that Zerex offers anything significantly different from any other decent quality antifreeze intended for the same application. Even more important is to consider the claims of the advert in light of the Glycol coolant is WORSE at transferring heat than plain water, but it boils at a higher temperature and freezes at a lower temp - neither is helpful in a WC system unless you're doing something radical. Seal lubricant is fairly standard in anti-freezes, and is useful in an automotive system with a mechanical direct drive waterpump. In a standard WC system, it's useless as our mag drive pumps don't have any seals to lube. It is true that anti-corrosives are probably a part of the Zerex blend, but you will find them in ANY good anti-freeze, so there is no special reason to prefer Zerex on that account. In short there may be reasons to put glycol antifreeze in your WC system, but they aren't specific to any particular brand of coolant. Gooserider |
Checkers, Schucks, and Kragen auto parts stores (same company) usually carry hyperlube. I got mine for about 8-10 bucks at Checkers.

I wonder if anyone has tried the humidifier additive that is used to prevent algae etc. Whenever I add it to my decorative fountain, the water flow through the submersible pump increases dramatically for a while, but it does seem to genereate a fair amount of suds in an open fountain environment. I don't know how it would do in a closed loop.

I have used the humidifier sanitizer in small amounts for 8 months (or more) with no ill effect with the same water (have not bled the system in 8 months). My friend has used Hyperlube and the humidifier sanitizer for a couple months with no ill effect and he uses mixed metals. I have not looked into the non bromide non cloride spa sanitizer so I cannot coment. I will say that hyperlube will not be found at a spa store. What you want to ask for at a Spa supplier is non bromide non cloride spa sanitizer. Maybe Air Spirit will have more to say on this. |
