Well whats better:

1) Having a drug available that can substantially help people.

2) Not having the drug at all.

Even if the drug companies make a buck, at least we know we might have helped create the drug that helps people. That's enough for me. In fact the only way the results of this project can be used to help anyone is by selling the products that come of it.

Boli 01-19-2004 07:34 AM

If it is as long as I had Orange - then untill the next update :(

I HATE having 594k a day anyone fancy lending me 6k a day :D

I been in the red for three days now and I just added the screen save to 3 more computers

Boli 01-20-2004 08:46 AM

The text client run as a serveice with 150MB of RAM is FAR more effective (in terms of points/hour); but then, some people do like pretty colours.

Joe 01-20-2004 08:43 PM

Doh!! forgot to fire it up the last 2 days :(

imagex 01-20-2004 08:55 PM

woops, even though its put me in the lead in points for the last few days, lol

imagex 01-21-2004 12:15 PM

Damn, I've add 5 more machines and my numbers are going down!! this must be a tough one. are you guys haveing the samething?

satanicoo 01-21-2004 08:56 PM

I have seen that this new update keeps hanging on a protein, and doesnt upload after that.
A bug.

Check your friends machines, and if dcmonitor says they are running and have buffered generations, get suspicious.
The filelist.txt maybe has to be fixed. Check error.log first .

Cptn. Foo Foo 01-22-2004 12:00 AM

is there a new protien now?

i'm counting down from 10,000 again...

Groth 01-22-2004 01:40 AM

A complete cycle of crunching consists of:

Generation 0 - 10,000 randomly generated structures
Generations 1-250 - 100 slight variations/perturbations of the best struction of the previous generation

After completing a full set of 251 generations, it begins again at 0.

Thx. Sorry for my noobness :D

Groth 01-22-2004 03:15 AM

If you're curious how many full sets you've completed, look in your folding directory. Find the newest file with a name like 'handle_x_handle_y_z.val' where handle is the 8 character handle you were given when you signed up. x will be the number of complete cycles your computer has finished since installing. y and z are generation and structure numbers.

My fastest computer got a fresh install with the latest protein/client update, and has completed 9 full sets. My slowest hasn't had a reinstall since July, and is currently on its 43rd. :)

My networks been up and down, so I swaped out a router and now maybe these machines will dump some data.

msv 01-23-2004 03:06 AM

Aah, 2 new active members. We´re up from 44 to 46! If there´s anything we can learn from DPC it´s that more comps gives higher scores.
Now there´s just another 43 passive members to awaken.

Woohoo!! Up to 12th!! :D
...ooops...nevermind. Damn you imagex!

J/K. :)

Do you know exactly how many computers you have running the client/current protein right now?

Groth, I think 'x' might be the cycles performed on the current protein--my WXP machine lists '9' and my Linux machine lists '8', and both are working on the new protein now. Both got updated executables on 12/18/2003.

You should probably double-check that 'slower' machine. ;)

Groth 01-23-2004 03:27 PM

Nah, an update won't reset the xx number to zero. It keeps goin' up unless you reinstall (or delete filelist.txt). I *wish* my 350 MHz K6 could do 43 full cycles in the 10 days we've been on this protein (I'd be kickin' Joe's ass :) ).

...sure enough, it only gets reset when filelist.txt is recreated. I forgot I deleted filelist.txt on both machines when they got hung up a little while ago...

About how many ppd does your K6 (2?) produce? I was running the linux client on a K6-2@600 for a while, and didn't see much difference in my daily production.

Groth 01-24-2004 08:07 PM

I don't know how many points the little K6-2 produces, but it doesn't really matter. It mainly acts as my FTP, mail, and NFS server; folding points are just a bonus. If I had to guess, I'd say 20 to 25 thousand a day.
