From the folding website...
"The protein update is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11, 2004, at 11:00am EST. Make sure to upload your buffered results ahead of time, and check the news section for any updates. " So a new protein tomorrow... |
Look out jaydee! Just in time for the new protein, I've fixed my fried motherboard. Poor thing now has an external circuit to supply power to the memory. We'll be limping along with some old PC2100 memory until I pick up some fast stuff over the weekend....better start fleeing now.
Fourth place will be mine again!!!!!!! |

Also looks like we are on track to take back 5th place in a day or so!
|
And in a small (but important for me) way my main folder(verb) will be back on track very soon... nearly doubling my output :D.

Get updated to the new protein ASAP to the guys that have not already as it is faster! Two of my comps are putting out more than all 4 where on the last one. Unfortunatly 2 of them failed to autoupdate though. All fixed up and running 100% now though.

Does anyone know what's up with the low scores over the past few hours? Is this the new scoring system that was bragged about?

It's the new protein. 129 residues takes longer to fold than the previous 108. Folding time is roughly proportional to the square of the # of residues, give or take a bit based on the shape of the protein. This one looks to be about 20% slower than the last.
Plus, it take folks a while to get through that first generation-0. The scoring system that is constantly mentioned on the folding page has nothing to do with points for us; it's about giving the folds a fitness score, to pick which one to base the next generation on. With any luck, we'll get better RMSD with the latest scoring function. |

"to fold" is a verb "folding" is a verb in the past tense (he was folding last night) "folder" denotes "job of folding" (he is a good folder). Of coures I bracketed the verb just to separate it from the more common use of the world A folder(noun)... (computer folder for exmaple). I was just eing picky b/c the context it was in it sounded wrong. Next week 'i' before 'e'' :D ~ Boli |

 Well, in Holland we use it also in the present and the future  |

What is everybody else seeing for speed decreases? From the limited data I have on hand, I'm looking at about a 35% drop on my Barton 2300... ~6.3 gens/hour down from ~9.7 gens/hour. |
These big protein like memory bandwidth. An old PC100 using box has slowed 50% or more from the last protein; my top cruncher (with PC3200) has only dropped ~20%.

"to fold" is an infinitive, a special type of prepositional phrase. "folding" can be used as a passive verb (I was/have been/am/will be folding), a gerund (Folding is cool), or as a participle (I fixed my folding computer). :p |
