Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
You are right the OS is stored on the HD. No functions work unless the unit boots. The reason for assist not finding it. It sounds like it is looking for the boot tracks. A work of caution, Snaps do not like Maxtor's ATA133 drives. Some of the newer hardware version don't seem to have the problem. The 5th blink sequence is for firmware updates. I would reload the OS from a image file using DD. The 1100 requires the 2200 image. The 1000 image is for the older models, where the OS is stored in flashram.

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Happy New Year everyone! I'm glad I stumbled across this thread while searching for something completely unrelated. I am getting ready to replace the drive in my Snap 1100 as it has been making some nasty noises lately. Does anyone still have Snap OS 4 laying around? Thanks all!

Re: Same issue, no LBA support
So, if anyone cares, I finally got it to work!!!! I had to format one drive at a time, with nothing else connected, going through the entire sequence of enabling LBA support, etc. It took forever, but it worked. Once they were all formatted, I was able to build the raid 5 array. THANK YOU everyone, and most especially blue68f100, for getting me to try it all over again, one at a time...

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Hello Guys,
I have an snapserver 4000 with 4 drives, we want to upgrade to an larger disk, but the OS is a limiting factor. Is there someone who can mail me the link so we can upgrade the OS on the snapserver, the adaptec patch is not working since are running snap OS 2.x I can recieve large e-mails on gmail, and as alternative i can provide ftp upload space. Perhaps ik can also arrange some hosting for the product OS since i'm working for an internet company. Thanks and please drop me an e-mail if you can help me with the OS update (v.4.0.830 i think) Silvester |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Is there a debug command that is used to enable lba-48 bit?
I cant remember, will look tonight |
Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
The cmd is " ide 48bitLBACounter get or reset"
Reset enables it if supported, Get reads the Statis, if = 0 = failure. I think there are some Promise controllers on sume units that do not support LBA48. The reason for some 4100 working and some not. |

Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Get to the debug page and enter "ide 48bitLBACounter get"
If the results are not 0 (zero) then it is enabled. 0 means NO |
Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
What does enabling "ide 48bitLBACounter get" do?
|
Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Tells you the status of the 48bit LBA
And enables you to turn it on using different instructions |
Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
David - Are you able to enable this without having >137gb drives in the unit?
As im trying with my 2 x 80's, and it just executes without error, but is still 0 |
Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
I believe it is only valid if it is needed, drives >137gig. Other wise 24 bit is ok.
I think the "co de format ##### /reinit" will also turn it on. |
Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
Does anyone know which brands of PC100 RAM is downward compatible with the PC66 specification that a lot of the older Snap Servers are using?
|
Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
I suppose all brands should be
Cant see why not |
Re: Hack a Snap Sever 1000?
I just spoke with Kingston tech support and they said that the BIOS determines whether the memory is downward compatible. I read online that the chip determines this. I'll have to research it further.
