Now this might sound weird, but is there any way to load/add/whatnot codepages to this thing? Now that I "upgraded" from JP version of snap software, it refuses to save anything other than us-ascii filenames into the shares.

Is there a way to add(?) or replace one of hte codepages it ships with (437, 850, 865) with somethign else? (like 932 for sjis)...

Jacobus, 3.4.805 will not do you any good. That unit does not suport large disk (>137gig).

Stoff, what size drives are you planing on installing. You will need to boost the ram to a min 128.

There is an option under languages i believe to change the letterset it uses

Havn't had this request before, so I don't know where they are located at.

If you can find the directory where they are stored you could add to the set. Use debug with "ls" cmd to get a directrory listing. If you still have a drive with the old files you could transfter them across.

The Snap OS is a FreeBSD offspring. Most of the unix cmds work but not all. Whereis does not.

The drive will work, stick with Seagates or Hitachi, they have the fewer problem. A user just ran into a problem with the power supply being to weak for 4 x 500gigs. Buy the ones with the least current draw on startup.

I think I have a 2100, it has two 10gb drives. I am looking to drop two 200gb drives in it. Also can you use differant drive brands just as long as they are the same size? Thanks for the help!

Need to know what your vitals are, HW, BIOS, SN.
Also need to know if its a v2 2000.
The v2 models have DIMM ram where v1 has Simms. V1 does not support large disk due to HW and BIOS (1.2.180) restriction.

How do I find out what version bios im running? and is it a standard dimm/simm? Do you mean "SN" as in serial number? Thanks again for your help!

You can click on the rectangular "snap" logo in upper left corner of the web administartion GUI to find the bios, sw revision and serial number.

Ok this is what I have;
Software - 3.1.603
Bios - 2.0.252
Serial - 44009
Hardware 2.0.0

So what would be my options for the snap? Can I put a 160gb drive it?

With the proper OS it will work. Your serial no is past the problem child zone. If you are planning on runing raid. Install a match set of ATA100, ide drives.

I would stick with 3.4.805 for that old unit.

Are you planing on increasing the ram? Doing so will help the performace.

Thanks for the .805 update. I performed the update and reinit and my version 1.1 hardware with 1.2.180 bios recognizes my 200GB hard drive as a '189GB' drive in the drive status page. However, when I go to format the drive (which worked fine when they were only recognized as 137GB (pre-update)) it only formats to around 40% and then I get a disk error. It only shows up as a warning in the log. The log states:

10000 is the master drive. Swap drives and see if it follows the drive.
Add ram if you got it.

Could I install 3.4.805 on this unit ?

I have downloaded the .sup (3.4.790) file and the web assist from the dell site, I do not seem to be available anywhere else.

Will these tools work with my unit ?
Is 3.4.805 available or is 3.4.790 sufficient ?

I do not have the original disks and the only stuff I could find on the net is the dell downloads.

I only get a chance to work on this late at night so I am hoping this will do the trick. I tried a western digital 250gig last night and it formatted down to 30gig.

Some have had problem with dell's software. Don't know why. If you want large disk support you will need v3.4.805. Your bios should support it with out any problem.

A 2000 will auto format and install the OS from flashram. Look at the disks under the utility section of the admin. See how the drives are setup. It's possiable that it retained a raid from the original setup. You will need to change to JBOD. Then enter "co de format 10000 /reinit" from debug (http://snapIPaddress/config/debug). Where 10000 is the front drive.

I have a Snap Server 4000 running OS version 3.1.603. I would like to upgrade my drives to four 250gb. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could e-mail OS version 3.4.805. Thanks for your help!
