Processor cores will b crap untill they start usin carbon istead of silicon. Carbon much lower electrical resistance so less heat. Can wait till i start microprocessor design n start designing processors usin nano tubes, w00t. The idea is currently been worked on at this very uni, in the same department that i study in. Coolio or wot?

Just thought I'd chime in. My watercooling $80 XP2500+ (they're probably cheaper than that now) is running at XP4000+ speeds (2.82GHz).

Carbon isn't a semiconductor though...

My comp hits a brick wall at 210fsb 12.5x multi, so I need to do a volt mod for the northbridge and get some mushkin black lvl.2.

Still though, it is not like my processor is standing still or something, and I make a pretty crappy income of $150 a week (and I buy a lot of other stuff), so I dont have the money to invest it all in my comp. (Highschool kid :D)

I just got a heatercore from Autozone for $25. Add two brass barbed fittings for $1.50 and epoxy for $2 and it works out to be $30. Cheaper and faster delivery.

Those rotron fans are pretty nice, got one a while back for someone in a US order, (You couldn't get them in the UK), nice... if you have to have a fan that is :D , I prefer something a little bigger :p

Bladerunner, you can get comair rotron fans in the UK from www.rswww.com, they aren't cheap from there though. I managed to find a used 235 cfm 172mm model for £5 though. Wish I'd bought 3 or 4 of them now. :p

Can't remember how much it cost from the USA now, but when I say a while back I mean 6 Nov 2001 to be precise :) although radio spares are good for a lot of specialist items, now you mention it I don't think anything they sell strikes me as cheap :(

U dint need a semi conductor to make a processor, u just need an object that can be set to 1 of 2 states, and nano tubes can do that. Its new technollogy, and cool. First rials have prooved a processor of 80GHz!!!!!!! With no coolin what so ever.

Either way, it is easier to understand the overclocking potential of the processors out today. When the new stuff comes out, it will be at least as expensive as the a64s are now, and the prices of the new stuff will go down. If you are a poor high school student (like me)...I wouldn't spring for the prescotts. You can find better deals if you know where to look. I got my intel mobo and proc (see sig) for $200 w/ winXP. There are many opinionated people on the boards who will cite specs for you, and explain why Northwood > Prescott, but that's just my 'sparknotes' 0.02.

Also, check out #rotors waterblock design. I've done some research, and it seems that it is the easiest way to make a quality waterblock. You can even do it with just a dremel. Just make sure that you get the mounting holes right for your new processor. Do a search for posts by rotor, you'll find it.

i think i will stick with the design i have some up with, nothing against #rotor blocks but i want something i have come up with. the presotts will use the P4 socket so my mounting holes should be fine, but later they are introducing the socket 775 which will mostlikely have different mounting, but my w/b is for the P4 socket.

superart, the fan was correctly identified as a Comair Rotron. Just tried it out tonight at 24V (surprisingly quiet for the vast amounts of air being moved), 12V (not bad but it whines a bit) and 6V (twitches but does not move).

Bladerunner, sorry about the pic size. I'll try to shrink things, but I've been in a bit of a hurry so you get the raw pic from the camera (no post processing). Been trying to watch three kids, work enough to keep my job and then do something to keep my sanity (watercool). Yeah, yeah, excuses stink, but you get what you pay for. :D

As for YOUR fan, Bladerunner, where in the world did you get a DC fan of that size? I have several AC fans of that size (with fewer blades), but nothing that I'd be able to slow down to a tolerable noise. Are you using that on an outside radiator!?

Now, as for the carbon circuits... that 80GHz was not a full CPU. It was a set of test circuits. As far as I've read, researchers cannot yet make a design with that process that can support 100 million transistors yet. The next set of materials being really looked at for any near-future mass-production is Silicon-Germanium. Anything with carbon is at least 15 years out, not 10. It's not just knowing how to make something. It's also knowing how to make ten million of them at a profit, and that takes a significant infrastructure that includes a rather vast supply chain of material vendors, tool vendors, etc... Fun research, though.

Even more fun if I can get on the reaserch team for my finnal in 4 years. About time. It could really depend, quite often this early on, its hard to tell. Who knows wot kinda huge breake throughs (or not) they could have. It can so easily vary between nethin from 10 to 30 years b4 the procs come out on he market for us. But I might get lucky n b given 1 2 test at home if I get on the team. A free processor at 80GHz. I think that will beat nethin on here for value for money, lol.

well i have compleated my design and ordered my copper 110 chunck. the only thing is that i dont know how thick the base should be at its smallest point, also how deep should my holes be that i use for the jet inpendjement, and how tall should my fins be that are 1mm wide? i think thats all and ill get a pic up on what it looks like when its finished, which will be a while, ill probably start a new thead for it though since it is compleated.

It's supposed to be 12v but I've been running it at 3v, 5v & 7v for a month and it has no start up problems at any of those voltages, nor has it appeared to affect it. It uses 2.4 amps @ 3v, 3.2 amps @ 4v and 4amps @ 5v. While it couldn't ever be classed as near silent, Its pretty quiet @ 3v under the desk... just a soft woosh... quite soothing actually.....wouldn't want it right next to my ear though ;) I'm going to put it and the rad in the loft soon, (was 6C up there last night) :D"

The rad & pump are up in the loft now and I have silence again, with cpu @ 15°C .... It's just a temporary measure as I know the loft space will be hot in the summer, hopefully by then I'll have another ground cooling system in place ;)
