Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Thanks for the .805 update. I performed the update and reinit and my version 1.1 hardware with 1.2.180 bios recognizes my 200GB hard drive as a '189GB' drive in the drive status page. However, when I go to format the drive (which worked fine when they were only recognized as 137GB (pre-update)) it only formats to around 40% and then I get a disk error. It only shows up as a warning in the log. The log states:
W File System : Format terminated unsuccessfully Disk 10000 Individual 4/28/2006 8:00:12 PM W File System : mkfs failed!!! Error = 5 Disk 10000 Individual 4/28/2006 8:00:12 PM W File System : _mkfs_WriteBlock - Undefined internal error Disk 10000 Individual 4/28/2006 8:00:12 PM W File System : Cannot Write: Blk 266354816 Disk 10000 Individual 4/28/2006 8:00:12 PM E Disk Driver : Cannot Write Device 80070000 Block 266354816 Any ideas? Do I have to turn on 48 bit? Do I need more memory than 32MB? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
10000 is the master drive. Swap drives and see if it follows the drive.
Add ram if you got it. |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Hi,
It is a .sup, and it can be done on the web admin panel, or via the assist software |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Thanks for the info
I have downloaded the .sup (3.4.790) file and the web assist from the dell site, I do not seem to be available anywhere else. Will these tools work with my unit ? Is 3.4.805 available or is 3.4.790 sufficient ? I do not have the original disks and the only stuff I could find on the net is the dell downloads. sup34790.exe ast34790.exe (assist.exe & assorted files) I only get a chance to work on this late at night so I am hoping this will do the trick. I tried a western digital 250gig last night and it formatted down to 30gig. TC |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Some have had problem with dell's software. Don't know why. If you want large disk support you will need v3.4.805. Your bios should support it with out any problem.
A 2000 will auto format and install the OS from flashram. Look at the disks under the utility section of the admin. See how the drives are setup. It's possiable that it retained a raid from the original setup. You will need to change to JBOD. Then enter "co de format 10000 /reinit" from debug (http://snapIPaddress/config/debug). Where 10000 is the front drive. |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
I just talked to Adaptec Customer Service and they said they will post Snap OS 3.4.805 on the website Monday. I have a Meridian Snap 2000 system that I have had running since 1999 and told them I need that OS and I will not pay for any 4.x updates since the 3.4.805 was free and I was given no notification of end-of-life!
Since I believe this will still not happen, could anyone send me 3.4.805? I want to upgrade my original 16GB drives to 200GB (my serial # is above 47000). Thanks! |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Me too :D. I just bought a Snap Server 1000, with a very noisy 40GB drive. I'd like to replace it with a quiet 160GB, so I need to upgrade to 3.4.805. The box currently has v3.1.618.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Will the 1000 format and copy the OS to the drive with out any intervention?
If not you will need to copy the boot tracks from the 40 to the 160. You will then get 130gig. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
I had to dd per the wiki instructions, but the file system created was the same size as was on the 40GB drive, not 130GB as expected.
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
You need to send "co de format 10000 /reinit" from debug to correct the mbr table.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Check you BIOS version if you are not at v2 you may not have LBA48 support.
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Yes, it is V2
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Also, how do you tell by the serial number on the unit if it's v1 or v2 of the hardware??
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
There was a mfg change arout the 28k SN. If you look throught the forum most of the 2000 problems are related to sn <28k.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
My serial number is above 50k so I'm ok there. Where can I get the newer firmware (3.4.805) for this unit, can someone email it to me?
|
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Verify your bios is a v2, and every thing will work.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Hello, I am trying to upgrade our Snap M4100 to from 100Gb drives to 300Gb drives. Here is my infor:
Model Software Hardware Serial# BIOS 4000 series 3.1.618 (US) 2.2.1 554920 2.4.437 It appears I need at least 3.4.803 from reading this forum, but I can't find an OS upgrade anywhere on Adaptec's site. Could someone provide me with the OS upgrade? Thanks. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
4100 has a max limit of 137gig.
You can up to 120gig or 160gig and loose the over run. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
What is it about the 4100 that makes it impossible to upgrade? The device itself says "4000 series". I realize that I'm new to this particular upgrade, but maybe there's a possibility that the OS upgrade would work for me?
EDIT: I would really like to try the os upgrade. Could somone generous email me at xferboyx@gmail.com with the os? Thanks very much. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
The 4100 has seperate raid controllers. There is a bug in these promise controller chips. SnapAppliance elected not to release a patch to the firmware to correct this. So there is no way to get support for LBA48bit addressing. May users have tried, over 3-5 yrs now, with no luck. You will be just spinning your wheels. Just face the fact.
The flashram for which the firmware and OS is stored is soldered in place. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Hi there,
I`ve just acquired a Snap 4000. I propose to buy (assuming no-one tells me it won`t work) 4 x Seagate 400GB drives and whack `em in. From reading the forum pages, I believe all I need is more ram (already got it), and a copy of Snap OS 3.4.805. I`m unable to find the sup file anywhere - could I prevail upon someone for a copy? Cheers, Paul |
