Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Might perform the same but is less restrictive.

Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
After talking to bigben2k I asked Jaydee if he would be willing to test a second top design and he said it wouldn't be a problem. So today I'm making a top without nozzles (just a widening round inlet) and mailing it to him so I can see how it will affect the performance and flowrate.

Awesome work Cap'n...nothing wrong with intuition IMO...math has it's place, but true art expands past the purely technical...I like those compression cuffs too!

Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Your numbers should be 13 not 12.
In terms of 52 -- through deviation of our planet's axis, Earth no longer moves through the 12 constellations as it has for thousands of years before. Or as one has grown to expect it to, now we introduce a 13th constellation in the sky. That new introduction for earth would be Ophiuchus - The Serpent Bearer, our time no longer is measured by a number 12. So, Captain Slug -- try a new approach! ;) In either way; I am one to wish you success :D edit: Here's some astrological clarification; http://www.griffithobs.org/SkyOphiuchus.html |
Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
The new top is made and in the mail on its way to jaydee for testing.

Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
very nice work! umm... i am planning to make a block too. I am wondering how did you find an o-ring with exact size?

I recommend using 3/16" or 1/8" diameter o-rings. I used 1/16th and it can be a bit unfriendly at times. |
Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
I tested the Ice Floe block and will add it to the chart tomorrow.
On the O ring subject I used to buy 10 feet of 1/8" Oring material and make my own. Just use a razor blade to make a smooth cut and super glue to connect the ends. |

Ice Floe added. I switched to bar graph as the line chart was getting hard to read.

Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Got the revised top. I ran out of TIM and going out to buy more. With any luck I can find the same stuff I was using. If not I will have to do some re-testing as the TIM material can throw results off by several degrees.
EDIT: Managed to get the same TIM material and will re-run a previous block to verify the mixture is the same. |
Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Well new TIM material is different enough to have to re-test the blocks. Got the IceFloe on now and then will run the Nazca with both tops followed by the other blocks. Will try to do the Nazca with new top tonight and the old top tomorrow night. I am gone most of next weekend so will try to get what I can done after work this week.

Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
You diligence is MUCH appreciated.

Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Had some issues with the new top. Seems to be leaking out the glued lexan pieces I am pretty sure. Water was squirting out the screw hole. I siliconed the base and it was still leaking so I siliconed the screw holes and was able to stop the leak long enough to test it.
I got .5LMP more flow through the block over the other top. I am setting up the original top now and will run it tonight. Once I get it done I will post the results of the 2 tops against the IceFloe. Might not be until tomorrow night before I get it posted. |
Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Odd. Must not have been an even solvent cure around one side of the top. No matter though since I'll be remaking that style top anyways if it performs and better.
|
Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
There is a lot of air gaps in them both. The original top went together just fine and is water tight with just the oring so I am pretty sure it is not the base.
Also the jet top is better anyway. Pretty sure I know why but will get in to that later. |
Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Interesting he didn't get much improvement on flowrates. Is the inlet hole not wide enough to feed all the channels?
BTW Thanks Jaydee for the testing. |
Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Yes, thank you Jadee for the testing. ;)

IMO the jets help keep the water flowing at the bottom of channels. Without the jets to help push water down the water evenly flows through the full height of the channels were most of the heat is at the bottom of the channels. The jets keep the water pressure more evenly pushed against the base of the block. I will get the results posted later this evening. |

Results. Will add more blocks as I test them.

Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Very interesting. I may make a "jet" nozzle array plate for Krakatoa to see if it performs better than the traditional slit nozzle.

Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Maybe a triple barb design might balance the flow better or combining the outlets channels into a single large opening on the base.
Capt. Slug good work |
Re: "Nazca" - Waterblock Concept
Any revisions to the base would either be permanent, or would require that I make a new one with CNC. I'm not sure if I want to do either at present.
