You are. Your still over double my normal daily output! Even when everything hooked up to the net I am still only around 100,000 a day. :) I am glad to see some challengers for the top positions. Means we got a healthy team building! :)

Nice work satanicoo! Keeping a steady output is a key to climbing the stats latter. Keep it up! :)

August 12, 2003:

Looks like we are doing pretty damn good still. over 1million points a day on average.

We passed a team and are now 26th place. If all stays the same it looks like we will hold this position for a while. Still slowly creaping up on a few teams though.

Remember tomorrow is the next "update" so check your boxes! Looks like we get another client update and a new gen to work on.

keep up the good work, and Welcome to the new guys!

jaydee 08-13-2003 05:53 PM

Check your boxes guys. I don't know if something went wrong again or what but none of my 4 crunchers have uploaded anything for hours since the update. :( I am suspecting another foul update but cannot confirm untill I get home.

Phant0m51 08-13-2003 06:00 PM

OK, my client updated itself, but when it went to restart itself, it didn't restart. It just hung. I had to shut it off then re-start it in dfgui.

Just thought I'd let you guys know you may have to re-start your services...

jaydee 08-13-2003 06:26 PM

Keep an eye on this thread: http://www.free-dc.org/forum/showthr...&threadid=3884

Phant0m51 08-13-2003 08:40 PM

Well my Auto-update wasn't borked like alot of the other peoples...But oh my god it's taking a long time to compile!

Total time of running since update:
.....2:40

Total estimated time to completion of Gen 0:
.....2:43

It said it had an estimated 2 hours until completion when it started, almost 3 hours ago.

Going through that right now on all 4 comps. I "think" I got them all straitened away. If you didn't auto update right after the update was available then you might be ok. I think they caught it pretty fast after the first round of bad updates.

I lucked out. The power must have went out before the update as the three desktops where all shut off when I got home. The laptop was still up though because thebattery is still in it. The laptop was borked though on D.F.

I fired up the three down comps and it auto updated just fine and now they are trying to kick out the first gen. The laptop was screwed up though. It must have got the bad update. had to delete and reinstall..

jaydee 08-14-2003 11:46 AM

Good God, we must have recovered much faster than all the other teams as our output has more than doubled and it doesn't appear the other teams output's have. We are easlily out producing every team up till 11th position!

I imagine the other teams will regroup after the failed update sooner or later but we have made up a lot of ground on the teams in front of us!

Good work guys!

Looks like this new protine is a fast one and RMS values are already much lower than the last. Looks like the records are already in the high 2's!

Phant0m51 08-14-2003 01:12 PM

All I have to say is...HOLY SHIT! I've put out 230,000 since yesterday at 8:00 at night! This new protein compiles WAY faster than the last one!

MadHacker 08-14-2003 01:18 PM

I think Mine is screwed up...
i only put out 24,083 points ...
and I have a 2.53Ghz P4 and others...
well it looks like i'll kill and reinstall the client again...
hopefully it won't screw up...

if it does... I won't be doing it again... sorry...
to much work everytime to setup on 6 machines
but alteast you will have my accumulated points..

yeah it is a pain in the ass when it doesn't work right. I had to reset it up on all 4 comps last night. Took all of 10 minutes but still sucks.

Blackeagle 08-14-2003 02:00 PM

Well mine is downloading the update right now.

I just hope it doesn't deleate the 54 gens on the machine ready to upload.

It looks like most of PC team members are running a heck of a lot faster. I hope mine does as well.

Edit:

It screwed me!! Download completed but corrupt, says to reload the thing! Completed work is lost.

This sux.

Blackeagle 08-14-2003 02:11 PM

I'm reinstalling, but those doing these updates need to get thier heads right and make sure they check these updates more closely.

My machine isn't real fast and that was a 1/2 days work or more that got dumped.

Here is a quote from one of the main guys:

And yes, the 'fresh' packages had the incorrect file in them for a few hours, but we fixed it as soon as we learned of it. We do not explicitly try downloading the posted packages and running them prior to release (but rather just test our own local copies) which is how this packaging error was missed.

 I don't know WTF the deal is with that. Anyway I think they are learning. This project is young yet and has a long way to go to mature.

who ever their QA guy is should get his $hit together...
as a programmer myself.. yes i miss things.. but that is what our QA guy is for.
as for updating all the machines...
i find the machines i have running as a service a real pain to update..

unregister the service-delete files .. reboot... then reset up the client.
if i don't do it that way..
the service won't get restarted or it won't set itself up as a service properly.

is there a faster way? granted they don't phuck things up...

I don't set it up as a service. Just unzip the folder to the desktop and click foldit, type in the info it askes, hit enter, restart the client and it is going. I got all the comps networked so I just copy the original downloaded client to the other comps so I don't have to download more than once from the D.F. server.
There is only like two people running/developing this project and on a limited budget and resources. So far they have kicked the shit out of every other project for uptime. I have crunched all the major projects and this one still runs smoother than the rest except for maybe SETI, but SETI had more problems when it was this early in it's development aswell.

MadHacker 08-14-2003 04:32 PM

unfortuatly i am not the only person who access the machines.
so i keep everything hidden as a service so no one can mess with them.
but that takes time... and it is a bother...
but now i'm whining.... anybody have some cheeze?

If you use DFGUI to run the client you can make the client window disapear and when you minimize DFGUI it will just leave a little icon by the clock.

Also you can try this: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconVall...35/hideit.html

I had been knocked out of action by a power outage, but I think I have most of my boxes up and folding again. New update seems to be going a lot faster; simpler protein?

Looks like most of the north east is blacked out!

Yes the protein, as I understand, is smaller so it doesn't take as long for each structure to complete.

ftjandra 08-14-2003 07:15 PM

Wow...I am just kicking a$$ with this new protein :). Not much longer now Jaydee :D.

Yeah, the power went out here today and my comps where down who knows how long. :( Looks like the power outage on the east coast has claimed the D.F. server as it is located over there. I bet when the server fires back up and we have dumped our stash you will have taken over the #1 spot! You certainly earned it!

Blackeagle 08-14-2003 09:08 PM

Not just the northeast lost power. Here in Mi. we were down for about 4.5-5 hrs.

The puter is now once again downloading this new protien.

pHaestus 08-14-2003 09:49 PM

yea this was a pretty big outage. I have a lot of work to upload too whenever it goes live again :)
