Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
You have a v2 2000 which uses a single DIMM's chip. PC 100 will work, the spec is actually PC66 is all that is required.
The 2000v2 has a battery, think is a std CR2032, will need to check when you open it up. Actually you are needing to upgrade the OS, The firmware covers the bios hardware, which has only been one release for the v1 2000. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Hi - I'm looking for this update as well (3.4.805) or higher. I have a SNAP 4000 and 4100 w/ software: 3.4.722 and would like to install 500GB drives in the 4000, and the largest possible in the 4100.
Could anyone who has this update please let me know. I would also like to know any thoughts on hard drive types that will work. Thanks very much. Cheers, Duane |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
The 4000 has a problem with what apears to be 4 platter HD, pulling to much current on startup and shutting down. Which limits the drive size to 250-300 gig. There is a thread running on this.
The 4100 does not support LBA48bit, so no hd >137gig. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Re this power supply issue. Has no-one thought about using a 2nd small PSU for the hard drives...
I know it would make it more independant |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
V3 want do you any good, you need to go to v4.0.860 for 2003 AD support. There is a work around on the wiki section.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Well in that case, I need 4.0. Can I upgrade straight from 2.4 to 4.0? I have downloaded some files from Dell but when I try the upgrade I get errors.
So, could someone send me the .sup files? Thanks, Ian |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Greetings,
I've got a Snap Server 2000 (HW revision 2) running SnapOS 3.0.0 and understand that 3.4.805 is the last free software update. Could someone help me acquire the .sup file(s) and the Assist program needed to update the software? (see my procooling profile for email contact info) The Snap 2000 running 3.0.0 works with my Windows 2000 box, but whenever I try to use Samba to connect to the Snap from my MacBook, the Snap freaks out, becomes unresponsive (won't even respond to ping), and I end up turning it off and then on again. I am hoping that the updated software will allow the Snap to be usable as a Windows share from a Mac. Thanks Wook |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Is there a summary somewhere of what OS versions get you what?

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Thanks for the note Blue.
I did try connecting to the Snap using APF, but was unsuccessful. I did some searching and apparently MacOS 10.4 (Tiger) dropped compatibility for some older AppleTalk/APF protocols. I just want to use it as a Windows share with Samba, connecting with smb://<machine_name> but whenever I try to connect to the drive, the system light starts flashing very rapidly, and I can no longer connect to the box (web, ping, etc. all fail) and have to reset it. Cheers, Wook |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
If you have the apple flag turned on in the setup, and that didn't help. Apple will read the UFS. Make sure its on. Just access the snap with out any special syn text. My OSX skill are a little low. I only have 3 cients that have the latest OS. With the older OS v8.6-9, I would just use finder and enter the IP addess of the snap. Have it save the settings (alias). It worked with out a problem. And I did that with my brothers 21" PowerBook (OSX).
The light flashing rapidly is a PANIC ALARM, meaning the unit is have a major problem, these are not good. Make sure the cooling fan is working. Open up and reseat the ram and the cpu. |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
You do not need to use smb:// to access the snap. This run transperent, provided you have started it in the admin options. Try access use http://ipaddress or Servername just like a pc.
I curently have a old mac PM7500 running OS 9.1 and has had no problems. I have also used it in the past with a powerbook running 10.3 that my brother owns. Note: On version <4 any changes to users and or options require a reboot for them to take. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
On MacOS X, if you are going to mount the remote drive, my experience is that smb:// is required before the IP address in order to successfully mount the share.
I can access the web interface from my MacBook, using http://machine_ip as suggested, although that isn't all that helpful when it comes to transferring large numbers of files. Something like SMB is much more useful. However, I did notice something interesting this morning: I tried connecting to the Snap 2000 with my wife's PowerBook (MacOS X 10.3.*)...and it connected just fine. I checked the version of smbclient (the software used by MacOS to connect to Windows shared drives) on her PowerBook and it was the same as the version on my MacBook (which runs MacOS X 10.4.*). I'm thinking this problem could be a Samba config problem on my MacBook where the MacBook is trying to use stronger authentication...I'll have a look at the smb config files tonight. Does any one else have any thoughts about what may be causing this problem? |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
The Snap is only using APF v2.0 not the latest 3 if thats of any use.
Does the snap showup when using the std finder? Are you sure you have All of the networking services turned on? |

Note that this only happens using MacOS X 10.4.*. On 10.3, the same procedure works just fine. Any thoughts? |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Activate the UFS with in the Snap, then see if the apple can connect via IP. Will need to reboot to clear up cache and load cleanly.
There is no way you need to use the smb/ cmd to access the snap. You most have something out of wack. Under Network Settings, send or post your "view network settings" results for me. |
