Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
How come you have the apple networking turned off ???
and NT SMB's off. You are using apples....... yes on NFS. I would change the "Workgroup" to match your current Group. |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Well half a week of working on my Snap 2000 still hasn't resulted in a bigger HD. I started with 2x6GB and wanted to at least swap in a Hitachi 40GB drive. First PcConnection sent me an ATA 133 drive, which was listed as 100 on their site. So I had to download the Hitachi HD utility and reset it to 100.
Then I blew the Snap fuse - easily replaced at the local Radio Shack for their last pack of 2 amp fuses. I've now tried every combination of slave/master, one drive, both drives, left/right, up/now. The new drive still isn't recognized by the Snap OS. So I'm down to the Snap OS. I have v 3.1.618 and bios 1.2.180. I'm figuring I need to upload to the mythical 3.4.803/805. Can some kind soul please let me know where I can obtain the correct .sup file or e-mail it to me n5 at mwpsoft.com. I've read through all the upgrade postings here and unless I'm missing something. I don't know what else to try after doing the OS upgrade. Any other help would be appreciated. I love my Snap and I'm not ready to replace it with something else. Thanks. Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
You have a version 1 2000. It does not support LBA48bit. So the max will be < 137gig. V3 supports HD up to 137gig. This old unit only has a ATA66 interface, 40 conductor cable. It will not work with a EIDE interface.
To upgrade the HD's, config the unit for JBOD. Once complete, shutdown and install 2 new drives. The drives should be set M/S, with the master on the end of cable. The drives must be clean, NO UNIX file structure. Restart the unit. The Disk LED should stay on for some time. It takes 10 min for the system to copied from flashram to HD. After that time you should be able to connect and monitor the disk formating status. As far as fuse blowing it was due to the RF shield at the drives power connectors. That is where I had the problem. |

I have been searching for my original v3 .sup and bios upgrade files. Can't find them. I located the DELL 3.4 versions, but I'm not going to try a non-OEM upgrade until I know I have the original Snap version to drop back to. Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated. Nigel |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Generally Hatichi dirves have never been a problem. Try resetting the drives back to default. While you have it connected to the pc, zero out the MBR table.
You can use dd to copy the old drive to the new. Only need the first 25 meg of the drive. Instructions are in the wiki section of the forum. If things are not working correctly yo do not want to attempt a OS upgrade. |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
I just acquired a Snap Server 4000 and I want to upgrade the drives from the original 4x30gb hard drives to 4x250gb hard drives. Here is the info from it
Software : 2.3.417 Hardware : 2.0.1 Bios : 2.0.282 Can the drives in it be upgraded? I know I will need to upgrade the Snap OS to get the 48bit LBA support, but I can't make heads or tails of finding the files on the snap website. Could someone possibly email me the files and some reference on how to do the upgrades if its even possible? My email address is zakosekjohn@gmail.com Thanks! |

I think in the end the biggest problem was that it was a version 1.1 piece of hardware. It still says Meridian on the casing ($1995 when I bought it.) The only thing I didn't attempt was to cap the hard drive to 32GB and see if the Bios suffered from the old 33.8gig limitation. I still would like a copy of the latest 3.4 OS upgrade, and related Assist and Bios upgrades. If anyone can shoot them over to me it would be much appreciated. Thanks again for your help. Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
These Ealry Snaps DO NOT LIKE EIDE DRIVES. Many have had a suscesfull upgrades, with no problem. Seagates and Hatichi drives have been of the least trouble. Once you get the flashram upgraded with v3, every thing works good.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Hi!
I just acquired a Snap Server M4100 with an older 3.4.7X version of the firmware. I understand that there is a 3.4.80X version .sup available. I would surely like to update my exisiting unit to the latest non-4.X version. Please email me at tim@lestercentral.com if you have a copy. I have another existing Dell Powervault 705N with 3.4.803 on it, but I don't have the .sup file. Thanks in advance, Tim |
Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Hey all! At the risk of sounding redundant, I'm looing for the SnapOS v3.4.805. Just acquired my 2000 and both drives are dead (actually they pretty much whine and knock loudly...) but I can access the management GUI with no problems. Removed the old drives and put in 2x 40GB and it works great. I would like to throw in some 200 or 300 GB drives but I distilled that the .803 would not detect >137. I found a bunch of great information but nowhere to download the update.
Thanks in advance if anyone's got it! Model 2000 series Software 3.4.803 (US) Hardware 2.0.0 Server # 38250 BIOS 2.0.252 |

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
Jilaman, What kind of problems are you having with the 4100. Because Snap never acknowledge that they have a 805 version. 805 only add LBA 48 support. Which does not apply to the 4100.

Re: Snap OS 3.4.805, anyone?
I think it actually has come down to a BAD drive. I can do invidual disks, and all 4 run and format fine.. As soon as I go to create a RAID 5 Disk1 fails.
SO I think it is a bad drive. |
