AD users not being updated on snap
I had a number of short powerfailures today after power being off most of the night after my UPS depleted, so my 4500 snap got to cycle a couple of times before batteries got to recharge :( Snap rebooted no problems.
However now I have an issue where Active directory users/ groups are not being propagated to the snap server, i.e. I add a new user on active directory and it the user does not does not show up in the snapserver. I have removed the snap from the active directory and re-added still no go. All my users except one can access the snapserver as per normal, thats fine for the time being (except for that one user hehe), however it will become an issue if I need to change groups add/remove users etc. I'm running 4500 1TB OS 4.2.054 |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
Are all of the shares/folders in tact?
Have you rebooted the server, after the Snap was up? Do you have a disaster recovery backup of the server settings? |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
Did you not have the server set to power off when the UPS tells it its on DC power?

But that has to be a network ups You're using a guardian OS unit, for which we have limited knowledge of... Someone may have some idea though |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
I'm still trying to get my hands on a 4200/4400/4500 so I can start getting all the info. And David won't be able to mess with his for another week or so due to other stuff.

Re: AD users not being updated on snap
You'll of course need a domain setup....
|
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
I've got the PC & routing hardware. Will just need the snaps.

Re: AD users not being updated on snap
No not at all. Just stating that i know what im talking about and dont really consider a linksys router as such. Although, the WRT54G I have is a suprisingly nice little piece of hardware for an end-user product thanks to a little custom firmware.
His comment did ruffle my feathers a little bit though. |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
G'day Guys,
Thansks for the replies, UPS is not an APC so is no good at shutting down the 4500. the UPS shutdown only works with an APC either connected via serial or via network:( I've rebooted the snapserver and all my domain controllers but no go :( I do have a DRImage and tried to restore that from the Disaster recovery Page. It keeps getting server communication error each time I try and upload it. Then after the third attempt at uploading the DRImage it just sits there on the upload page. So it looks like I may have to go back to Factory defaults and try that then use my DRImage. Bugger!!!! another late night lol Stephen... |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
We all have the late nights.

I was thinking about getting a WRT54G(S ?) for a mess about.... As the custom firmwares would be interesting to play with As my DG834GT is a little boring at times. Hallis, as for having cisco catalyst's - Get out. Just Get out What is the point Anyway Ive got a Watchguard SOHO6 at home, and im gonna end up with a Pix 501 at some point... When it finally gets removed from my dads work. It has been plugged in doing naff all for the last year + |

I've been thinking about a Pix, Just can't justify the expense with that im doing on my home network now, lol which is nothing. I picked up the Cat 5000 and the 2500's from my friend when we were all studying for our Cisco certs. He went on a crazy ebay buying spree. I call the Cat 5000 "the space heater" because it definately puts out a few BTU's |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
Yeah, its very expensive
Got a mate online who's dad is a cisco engineer thingy They've got a couple of CATs, and under their stairs is very warm PIX's are quite expensive They've had one at my dads work as long as i can remember, its never EVER done anything Just sat there drinking juice.... |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
The home use ones arent too bad. The larger rack mountable ones, even used, can still sell for close to $1000 US
|
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
Watchguard firebox. Cheaper and work good...
|
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
Mine sits in a draw.....
*Shrugs* |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
I just went with a Bussiness Class Router. A lot cheaper than those units. I looked at the Watchdog, but decided not to go thay way due to space restraints and cost.

Re: AD users not being updated on snap
I'm with blue. We are all geeks here, but I try not to get too crazy. My netgear prosafe fvx538 is as solid as anything out there, and no one gets through it. As long as what your are using gets the job done, that's all that counts. I detected a little heat in this thread, and we don't need that. We are here to help each other, and to be honest no matter WHAT you guys have you won't impress me, because I have worked with it all. What impresses me is level headed problem solving, so lets stick to that. You guys are all great in different areas, which makes us great as a whole.

Re: AD users not being updated on snap
Heat? Did I miss some heat? Darn it... Grrrrrrr
Anywise, I am just using a good solid router myself. I do not have a watchguard, I was just saying they are not bad for the money. |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
Mine was free
And NOT with a 5 finger discount :D Heh I run a DG834GT which serves my needs :D I think the only problem was we were going Off Topic |

Hah
Err... NO! I was given it when i took it out of service as it was an overkill, and was pointless for the setup |

for anyone else that has the problem. I initiall tried recovering via the DRImage, but this kept on failing, So I started poking around in the logfiles via the shell. In the /var/log/samba/log.winbindd I was getting alot of "tdb(/var/lock/samba/winbindd_idmap.tdb): rec_read bad magic 0x42424242 at offset=32280" errors. So looks like the winbind database got corrupt! I ended up deleting all the files under /var/lock/samba and restarted samba on the snapserver, this re-creates all those files. Snapserver is now talking to the Active directory again :) WARNING doing this stuffs up all userID mappings on the AD on the snapserver, so I went back to factory default ACLs on volume and then had to reset all directory user permisisions for all relevenant Active directory groups/ users etc.. All is working now :D |
Re: AD users not being updated on snap
Glad you found it, and thank you for providing info for future use...
