Case for LAN box what should I get?

Opinions? Got to be small(mid-tower at most) and preferably light. Looks count. It either has to be like totally square no curves or extreme looking like this one I am considering, http://store.yahoo.com/buycaseonline/milblac.html Help please!

How bout the Shuttle SV24 ???

.SV24

Limited on m/b and power, but add a handle and a P3 1k (or something) to it and you have a screamer thats simple to pack.

Sled : Uhh no because there's no other motherboard that will ever fit in that thing.

Kevin 10-27-2001 06:08 PM

All your base are belong to the Chilli Pro Case.

Sled_Dog 10-27-2001 06:30 PM

I know Ice I am gonna get it for a PC for my sister I realied that after I started researching.

Poopyhead 10-27-2001 09:50 PM

Chilli and p/s = 250$
SV24 includes powersupply + m/b w/ ethernet, dual Firewire, USB, audio in/out, TV out, VGA, front connectors etc on a 1/3 smaller case

for the same price

Add P3-1g, dvd or cd(rw), floppy and mem and your fave hdd---extra PCI slot allows a 64MB PCI GeForce2 MX400 (or your choice) to be added easily for acceptable lan gaming, save more $$$ use a cheap Celeron 1g

Sled_Dog 10-28-2001 10:11 AM

oh I see its on a riser. The pics of the board there is no riser they added that for this case. Hmm I could throw a PCI MX400 in there. But wait that riser does not reach up to the hole...

The riser lays the card over parallel with the board.[

Duh... but it looks like it does not reach up as high as the opeing. I could be wrong though. Well I guess the card prolly sticks up more if you look at your PCI cards they do stick up higher then the slot well if the slot was like that is.

Strafe 10-28-2001 09:12 PM

How 'bout the Lian-Li PC-42? Lian-Li seems to be down now so heres a link to so-trick...

Lian-Li PC-42

Even a PC-30 if you need a little more space.

resago 11-02-2001 09:55 AM

That pandora's box looks pretty cool, now if only I could read japaneze

decodeddiesel 11-02-2001 11:09 AM

Personally I would get a Chilli Pro and throw in an ECS board like Kevin did. Maybe a 1GHz Morgan and 256MB of Crucial with a Radeon 8500 or GF3 Ti200. Yes that would be a sweet little lan rig.

Sled_Dog 11-02-2001 01:54 PM

I want to build a Cyrix box pelt cool it and try and mad OC it. One of the .13 ones see what i get. Prolly buy an 800 and get 802 with pelt. 801 without pelt.

Sled_Dog 11-02-2001 02:01 PM

Well the Pandora looks nice but I am sure expensive and it has the same board as the Shuttle. The ARM is nice and may be the way to go. But I want to build a Cyrix box and OC it like mad :)

Jonas 11-02-2001 10:36 PM

heh i have had a cool little lan case kicking around for a while now. no aluminum or flash, but immune to even the worst baggage handlers and most horrifying car rides :)

old pics, i have cleaned it up a bit inside since then. works great tho. i really htink that these uber expensive mini boxen are really just silly. i mean they look nice but the price is just way off-base. why exactly is an aluminum case that is 1/4 the size of a normal case cost as much or more than the larger one?? silly.

Sled_Dog 11-02-2001 11:42 PM

This has turned into more of a PC for my sister then a lan box for me thing now though

Techguy 11-04-2001 11:59 AM

The issue with the shuttle (4 me at least) is NO AGP
any desent graphics card is AGP, can u even get a newer GeForce on PCI?
Lan=Gamer=Gr8 Graphics needed.

Oh well.
kick ass case tho

Poopyhead 11-05-2001 09:10 PM

No but a Radeon w/TV out PCI is only 69$, if the funky Savage dont fill your boots...

decodeddiesel 11-06-2001 12:54 PM

pretty sure you can get a GF2MX in PCI. That would be enough juice for a Lan box.
