Busy weekend...This is the setup for my brother, we managed to finish it this evening...:p
Hcore is from Opel cadett, pump is maxi jet 1000, all tubing 1/2... first, the hc with fan and home made shroud: |

another view, plexi is 2 mm thick, we managed to fold it over the kitchen table edge, heating it with cigarette lighter...
|
Cigarette lighter ? Wow that's high tech :)
Keep on posting :p |

this is his case, it's a big Macase with 2x300 W redundant psu's...I want one!!!

pump is small, quiet and mounted...:D

The block, #Rotor's style, quick to make, and pretty effective... drilled on my balcony this morning (yeah, I know it's sunday, and my neighbours prolly hate me, especially 'cos of my dremel;) )
|
this 4 flute mill bit was used to dig the outlets...I won't show ya the final result 'cos it's not what I wanted (I'm the slave to the symmetry and freak for the good looking pieces I can make...this was made in a hurry, so it's not to be shown :p )

WD 40 helps a LOT!!!

this is just a hint of the crappy final result of the outlet pits...

this is the 'workshop' I have, right on the balcony, and the temp's are nice, just below zero...
Oh, and the creature sitting behind the drill press, well, it just looks like me... |

the block is finished, but in the land of no Y splitters, one must use the crappy garden ones...They are wide spreaded, and the pvc tubing is..

hcore ready to be installed...
|

after installation, a look on the fan/shroud combo...the fan is Adda silent one, 120 mm on the back, pulling, and two 92 mm in the front, pushing air (front ones without a shroud).

Leak testing... the mobo is Asus A7N8X deluxe, and the cpu is 1700+ XP JIUHB (thanx Morph for the great stepping discovery!!!)

everything in place...the flow indicator will be added later, didn't have the time to make it...

and the last one, my comp (left) compared to the biga$$ server Macase...lot's of room in that one...
Sorry for all the pics (I'm also on dialup:D ) but I just had to share the experience... Happy, happy, happy....:) :) :) |
Holy panzer, batman ! This PSU is *huge* !
And now what about overclocking this baby... Tell us how far you go (i'm interested in getting one of those TBred). |
:D , the psu is HUGE and HEAVY...
I have jiucb on my epox 8K9A2 with kingmax 3200, and it's stable on 11 x 191, with voltages cranked high up...just managed to replace the nb hs with one made for duron's. I'm curious if it helps... This modded machine is with samsung 3200, I'll let you know how it performs, NP:D /edit I simply cannot try it now (I want to, but...) cos this thing is LOUD! She is asleep, and the apartement is small, so nothing till tomorrow.... :) |
Hehe with all these fans it was expected...
I just noticed: did U mod the NB heatsink ? At least remove the crappy thermal pad and put grease - and lap it ? The A7N8X craves for chipset active cooling. |
Heh, everything in this case (and around it:D ) is overwhelmed with the noise of two NMB very high rpm fans from the psu's. EVERYTHING.
No, I didn't know the nb issue, but I'll prolly try to wc it tomorrow, thanx for the info on that!!! The mobo came a few days ago, and I didn't want to hassle with it before the real owner (my bro) feast his eyes on it first...:D I still don't understand a few things, like the sync mode for the memory freq and other ones (bloody percentage instead of MHz...)...I didn't read the manual of the mobo, but will tonight, maybe it will shine some light on this. Also, the mobo shows the post message that cpu is on higher freq than made for, and it keep reversing to the 133 fsb after every reset....hmmmm.... I just didn't have the time to mess with it, hope I'll have some tomorrow to understand a few things.... |
go to amdmd.com, Asus forums - read the FAQ there.
As for the NB, try not to power up the system. You'll get the HS off easily. Notice how the thermal pad did not even make contact with the chip... And yes watercooling the NB on this mobo is a must. Allows 200+ FSB easily. For the BIOS: you must run in 'sync' mode. Or '100%' in the latest BIOS, aka 1002. Beware of the 12x - 12.5x multiplier limit of TBred. (again everything is in the FAQs of amdmb) |
THANX!!!:)
Off to read some FAQ's! Cheers! |
He couldn't wait, so he took the rig to his place, and for now, I can tell this: rock stable 12x175 @ 1.7V core, with stock nb hs (didn't even let me redo the tim under the nb hs:rolleyes: )
Not stable on 12x180...guess that would be solved with wblock on the nb...soon... Looks good, works good (after lot's of messing with it, this mobo was almost rma'ed, it wouldn't post and had problem with this redundant psu, wouldn't let me flash the bios, lot's of problems.... ) So, this is it, that tbredB 1700 work really nice for the price... Cheers |
in the tube closeup , is that *gulp* bubbles? i see? hopefully that was as soon as you turned on the bump and it's all out now.. =) --Josh
|
I think that was temporary; the waterblock isn't even screwed into place.
Nice work Puzzdre! |
Nice pics and stuff, I always love seeing pics! Okay I was just wondering what the specs are on that drill press you have? I've been looking around in the papers for some Auctions featuring endmills and it looks like they are just WAAAAY out of my budget... So back to ghetto-milling with a drill press. I know it doesn't and shouldn't be used for "milling" at least not a lot, but what can ya do? I need some recommendations for a nice drill press that will get the home-mill'ers job done! :)
I also feel your pain about the "Land of no Y-splitters" The home-depots and Lowes around here have nothing! BTW-- I noticed that you don't have a resevoir, it would surely help with all those bubbles, are you going to add anti-freeze/water-wetter, those are a must, but good job on that block you made! :) It's all about DIY-Cooling, forget buying, build, build, build it yourself!!! :D |
@bikr, that pic was taken right after filling and that was the leak test, there's a tee hidden inside those 5.25" slots, it took less than 20 mins for those bubbles to disappear.
I'm gonna make the small clear res soon, you know that square 5" high, 2" wide kitchen pepper grinders? I'll remove the grinding gear from inside, and have nice rectangular res/airtrap, right above the pump. Thanx Ben, and thanx to all of you ppl here, I learned much from you and your experience!:) V12/V12, this drill press is the cheapest one here (little less than 50$), it's not so good for miling (I can use some small dia mill bits, like 5mm and less, but with this 10mm on the pic, in one moment, the chuck fell off... ...and it shakes like hell, but it did the job) Guess it can be done better if I could only fasten this drill onto a better and steadier table, and buy a little xy table... No water wetter here, I'm running distilled water with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, so far so good. I tried antifreeze in my system once, but it colored and blurred my tubes heavily. I really like those #Rotor's blocks, you can make one in no time, and they do well. Quote:
Thanx guys! |
hooooah!! shame i didn't notice this thread be4
mind me asking, but what went wrong with the block that u were ashamed of? i hope it wasn't the internal finish because it is hard to achieve the level of perfection rotor puts into the method. your bro is one lucky bro |

Hi m8!
Well, ok, this is the pic of the block, the part I really don't like is how the outlet pits look, you know, I like it nice and even, not like this:D |
