Mozilla Firefox VS. Internet Explorer
Which browser do you prefer?
|
I'm a big firefox fanboy. Prior to that I used myie2. I am not converting my family over to firefox just to avoid all the spyware/adware/bs tech support issues
|
Firefox, it is the faster for browsing
|
haha who voted 4 whats a bloody browser m8? hah no1 likes netscape! i hate it
|
I use Firefox at the moment. It's tons better than IE but still has some various minor issues that hopefully will be resolved in the next update:rolleyes:. All I have to say is tabbed-browsing and mouse gestures rule!!! :D :D
|
well i need to start using firefox more. the thing i like about ie, is that it automatically opens music in wmp, but firefox waits for the whole thing to download
generally i think that i like IE better for downloads, but i need to use firefox more often. stick it to the man! take that bill gates!!! :evilaugh: |
firefox, hands down.
|
Why the poll? There is no discussion.
Firefox. Tada. |
FireFox 0.9.1 Rulez
|
eh I don't understand the rabid fanboyism. Firefox users still have to keep IE around for some sites and applications. Stability is now good, features are decently stable, and the integrated popup stopper works well. You can get all the tabbed browsing and popup features in IE with myie2 though, which suggests to me that it would be easy for MS to add them in the next windows version (they usually link IE version switches to a new Win32).

EXPLORER is bad

Pretty sure that SP2 of Windows XP is going to address this issue as well meltman

I love Firefox, but I run Crazy Browser too. CB is junky, but at least I can re-order the tabs. The funny thing is, I never need to re-order the tabs when I'm using Firefox... |
yay finally ie is getting some bloody votes m8...
not that i was the only one to vote for it... ok i was for a while... |

Here's the latest article from /.
/. Discussion: DoHS bans IE Dept. of Homeland Security Says to Stop Using IE : "The Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team touched off a storm this week when it recommended for security reasons using browsers other than Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer." |
For those that prefer IE this workaround that MS posted should make it useable again.

This thread needs a lot more love for Opera.
|
You guys forgot to include Opera in the poll. Its not as good as Mozilla, but it sure beats Internal Exploiter and AOLscape.
|
blame me 4 that HAL-i just slapped this thread together hastily last night, and i guess i was still exited about being a noob to forums. i should have put opera, my ie2, aol, msn, and probably many more. just wanted 2c what pplz thought of the main ones, cuz my friends have been nudging me in the way of mozilla.

No prob, I don't think anyone who conciously has come to this site uses MSN or AOL...strange ones they would be if they do. But Opera's pretty good, at least if you can get it without the perma-banner. But if your friends are bugging you to get Mozilla, defintely go there. I think the Opera guys invented mouse gestures for browsers (not sure though). I use IE for probably 80% of my internet tasks, because I'm stuck with it at work and on my corporate laptop box. But when I go home, I fire up my water-cooled rig (when its assembled) with Mozilla, and you can feel the speed difference even browsing when you have fast silicon and efficient software. I'm loading SUSE this weekend and migrating away from Doze altogether, and my 'puter will run even faster...whoopee! |
I like IE...
but what would you expect from a windows programmer... I love microsoft...(my bread and butter) |

ty hal, and ya ino not many l33t modders use msn or aol, hehe. ;) im now trying out some new browsers because of all the response to this thread. everyone has been pretty insightful as far as new viewpoints go. so now im using myie2 rite now, and i like it, at least graphically, but im afraid there is a bit of bloat with it. lots of new stuff running on the systray, but performance is not compromised, i feel. i will give mozilla a more thorough try. i like the fact that it is open source, as there are no profits flowing into bill gates' already buldgeing pockets. gl with the linux m8, sounds like fun. ty + God bless :D wow i love these emoticons - someone slap me plz!! |

As above bead and butter for a wife, four kids, a dog and a cat. Though it's more thanks to PLCs and the need for SCADA fun, it's mostly windows based. VB RULES!!! |
I had to come back and voice my opinion.
Had been using IE6 for years because Netscape 6 really ticked me off. Now with all the spyware out there (and plugging up my machine) I tried FireFox and I am really liking it. Definately recommending it. Not only is it a great browser but it just happens to be my alias/gaming name as well :D Cya |
ermmm.... what about Opera? i think 7.5 kicks ass
|
hi all, ive been trying firefox... AND IT OWNZ!!
ive always liked tabs, but now i am addicted. i have not caught onto how to do mouse gestures yet but ill figure it out. although tabs cut down on #of browser windows open, i still usually have a gazillion "windoze" of firefox open at once. also i like the cool skins. right now my firefox is looking like a mac. i am using noia 2.0 theme. its great, no flaws at all. the integrated google search and the popup blocker pretty much seal the deal 4 me. thx ladies and gents for all the advice. firefox rulz. (fanboyism not meant, i still use IE) |
I converted over to firefox almost a year ago. Since then I've converted tons of people over. I've yet to have anyone complain that firefox was worse than IE.
|
i use firefox as primary, but i still have to use IE from time to time. it seems with newer versions of firefox, it can handle most of the pages out there, but i still have to check pages with IE. face it, everything on the net is built for IE (and most of the time exclusively, because a lot of web designers either don't care or are oblivious to checking browser compatibility).
i used opera a bit here and there, and it is nice (don't know if they have it fixed or not but it used to have a horrible time with animated gifs - played them super slow, and was annoying). but i just never got into it really. probably what i really like about mozilla though is its more standards-oriented html handling, the security, and the plugin support (like the very handy "view page in IE" plugin). IE really isn't that horrible - aside from some security issues it's basically just as good as everything else (aside from its occasional childlike html rendering). if mozilla was as popular as IE, i'd bet there would be as many exploits for firefox as there are for IE :) i'll stand by mozilla as my personal preference, but if you work with the web a lot, you can't ignore IE at all. last stats i had it still had an EXTREMELY commanding lead on the net, and probably only loses that on hardcore techy sites like this. oh yeah, the main thing that pisses me off with mozilla/IE, is that if you make something crappy (written crappy) that works in IE, it's pretty common that it doesn't work in mozilla. that's generally pretty easy to fix (most of the time). BUT, when you build for mozilla (which is about 95% compatibility with IE), and a page breaks that way in IE, it's usually 10 times more difficult to fix. several times i've had perfect code break in IE but work perfectly in mozilla, all html standards etc. sometimes IE just doesn't understand the pages :) |
I love Firefox.
