172watt pelt and a 9700pro

Maze4-1 VPU clock comes with a 80watt pelt

If i take the 80 out and put a 172 watt pelt will it "hurt" my vpu core or would it just be fine?

It won't hurt your core unless it causes condensation. You will likely have to waterproof and insulate a larger region of the videocard to adequately protect the card.

alright and this would give better cooling obviosuly, but is it neccesary?

Personally i have found that my VPU is never overheating (i have a 9700pro as well) and i dont think you need to get your vpu into the really low temps unless you are overclocking it, which i havent found a need for yet either =). I say if its running around room temperature or cooler you are perfectly fine (even a little hotter is fine). good luck with your cooling adventures!

If you run the 172W TEC @ 12V, no, it won't hurt anything...

Keep in mind that because the VMAX of the 172W is 24V, doesn't mean that you have to run it at the max voltage. As far as I'm concerned (and I'm sure many would agree) Pelts perform better at lower voltages... meaning lower V than the module's VMAX ...
Running the 172W TEC module @ higher voltages is definitely not necessary unless you're trying Vmods at higher voltages. Still I highly doubt that you would need to go any higher than 15V for the 172W module.

I got better results with a 172W TEC @12V than a 80W TEC @12V on 9700 Pro.
and our customers that switched to the 172W TEC also reported higher OCs on their Vmoded carcs.

But if you're not planning to Vmod the card, I'd say stick to the 80W TEC. It will do the job perfectly fine.

just my 0.2

Good advice Bruce.

I've recommended using a 172 Watt TEC at 12V in the past, because it should give a bit better cooling and draw even less current than the 80 Watt TEC at 12V.

Assuming there is a CPU on the same watercooling loop, the reduction in the heat going into the water is an added benefit.

thanks for the replies :)

Actually the VPU and NB are on there seperate line and CPU on another

but

Since Im not doing volt mods ( dont plan on im a wimp lol ) then 80 shall be fine. It will be hooking up to Vantec Stealth 420 watt so that would be just fine. and MAYBE is I have the extra $$ Ill go for that higher wattage, but this 80watt should get me into the subzeros at idle hopefully?

Ubernerdsteve 09-12-2003 06:01 AM

you said you are hooking it up to your vantec 420...just to make you aware the 12volt line on that may not give you the current draw you need and may hurt all performance...i know that a 226 wont run on a computer psu thats not powering anything else it ends up running at 10V and like 15 amp or less when it should be 12V at 25A you are probably 12 at 14 amps or something so it may work just dont put too many on it.

Yup, the 80 watt will go on this PSU, but anythig higher Illlg et a 2nd PSU or a Meanwell.

alright just checking
