The MCP 650 fittings
 

I have been fortunate enough to get my hands on the new Swiftech MCP 650.

Unfortunately, my previous rigs all have 3/8"ID, 1/2"OD tubing. I have searched then net now for 2 days and found nothing so far on what tubing other guys are using. I have tried to force the 1/2" OD tubing on (used vasoline) but just doesn't quite make it over the lip.

Will I have to go to the higher 1/2"ID 3/4"OD tubing?
On Danger Den's site they list the barbs for 1/2"OD tubing and I had thought the DD12V and MCP 650 were the same pump?

you should also be able to force it by heating the tubing prior to installation (if you want to use the smaller stuff w/ no adaptor).

Heat a pan of water to near boiling and let the tube soak a bit. That should provide enough give to force it over the fitting.

That works well with 1/8 wall tubing, but 1/16 wall doesn't have the stiffness to be pushed over a 1/8 larger barb when heated. If someone knows how to get 3/8ID1/2OD tubing over a 1/2OD barb, I'd really like to know.

it works really well for hose barbs or anything with a tapper.

Forgot the relatively straight and boxy ones on the 650.

Save yourself and get some adaptors.

Thanks for the responses I boiled the water and set the tubing in it for maybe 3-4 minutes. With a little vasoline on the edges it worked. I will be testing the circut tommorrow evening but at least the tubing is on there and ready to go.

I am in a similar situation, I have a D4 (non swifty) with 3/4 OD barbs. My system is 1/2 ID (this was a planned purchase).
I was going to build an adaptor for the high pressure side, while keeping a 3/4 ID tube between my T and my low pressure side of the pump. I d rather stretch the tube over the high pressure barb.

I saw a threaded barb impellor housing over at Laing's site, so that can be an option too.

Interesting, considering the 650 is 1/2 OD while majority of swifty is 3/8 and threaded barbs are so much easier than a pice of tube an an adapter.
I for one would purchase a barbed impellor housing... guess Ill try to go through Laing...

BillA, is Laing a US or Germany based company. Because If they were based in Germany, I could drop by one of their retailers or their HQ this winter and get me a barbed housing.

Laing is a German company, inquires to them from the US will be referred to Laing in the US, and these inquires - if related to electronics cooling - will be forwarded to Swiftech

the only threaded pump housings are 1/2" NPT male, or 1/2" BSP male (but I'm not so sure looking at the thread)
you really want to put a 1/2" NPT by barb on the pump ?

the only barbed sizes are 1/2" and 3/4", no 3/8"
we are exploring other options, but molded parts take time and $

this arraignment is not as bad as it may appear, the fill-and-bleed kit is no more
its replacement, the MCRES-525 has 3/8" NPT ports which permit a 1/2" barb for the line to the pump inlet, or even a 5/8" barb for a true 1/2" ID system
- then the reducing adaptor to 3/8" is only on the pump discharge for our kits

If you're in Southern Germany, you should stop by and visit the company. They are located just outside of Stuttgart , Germany in a small little town of Aldingen in the industry area. I lived in that same area for 17 years. They are a very friendly people and will more than likely give you a plant tour and then take you out and get you drunk. Well it worked. But I don't know about pics. I put the tubing in the boiling water for about 3-4 mins and then proceeded on. I still applied vasoline on the inside and the fittings. I must say that the MCP 650 is ok but I did not anticipate the small whirring sound that it emits. It is muffled by the 2 side 120mm ("silent") fans I have but it is somewhat noticeable. I will attempt to post pics later this week.

In the meantime thanks for the help. I know have another issue with my video card cooling but I will post that in another section.

my 650 is also rather noisy - much worse than my 600. I've burned it in for 3 days now - gonna give it a week.
