First watercooling project: FINISHED

Full worklog here:

Dolphin Pond 385GPH pump
5/8" ID Tubing
Swiftech MCW462-U Waterblock
1993 Ford Windstar AUX heatercore
Danger Den 5.25" bay reservoir (I do NOT recommend this. It is cheaply made)
2x 120mm Sunon 130CFM fans
Custom built external enclosure
~3L distilled water with Swiftech HydroX additive

Idle: 25C
Load: 32C

I am VERY happy with this setup. I'm goin' to a LAN in Boise this weekend, and I'll take pics of the entire thing there and post 'em. The temps are way better than I was expecting from this system.

why did you use 5/8 ID tubing. you will get no performance increase over 1/2in tubing. nice looking system though

Jason_The_Angry 10-20-2004 06:44 PM

that's some serious water cooling there! was just wondering, what are your ambient temps for those readings? also, what's that 90 degree elbow in there for? in any case, nice work.

pictures: video cam or cell phone? :D

Nice rig.

First off congrats on finishing it looks nice

Mine is almost going to be done (I have been working and deciding what parts I want for about 3 years), and will look very similar to yours except that I am running the tubes through the bottom of my case( that was the hardest part, cutting holes in my Lian Li), and will be using a '75 Ford heatercore (like the chevette's but with barbs coming off to the side), a cascade, a Danner Mag3, .... now that I think of it It is only similar in apperance (the box that is).

What did you make yours out of? Mine is 1/2" MDF, painted to a mirrored black with silver/aluminum screws, fangrills, and slide locks.

90 degree elbow = no sir!

Thank you for all the comments. I've obviously put a lot of work into this, and I'm really proud. I wanted my first w/c setup to be different and an eye catcher at LANs. First test is the 300 person Boise LAN this weekend.

To answer the questions:

1) I used 5/8" because that is what the heatercore was. Also, because nobody does it.

2) They're taken with my VX6000 cellphone. I'm too cheap for a digi cam, but I'll spring for a w/c setup.. :-D

3) Mine is made out of aluminum. I live in a small town, so I just had a welder tack it up for me for $20. The sad part is, I didn't put a clear coat on it, so I've already chipped the paint to hell :*(

Oh yeah, the elbow.. I hate it. But, it's the only way I could get it connected. I can't stand it there, but I really didn't have a choice.

Ambiant is around 67F/20C. Question for you guys. I spent quite a bit of time bleeding this guy, but every no and then, I see/hear a few bubbles going through the tubes. Should I be concerned about this? Obviously the setup works well, but will these damage the pump?
