rathar serious hardware

Wow. I just can't get over how well that thing is made. I don't see who would buy it though? More like a show piece for Zalman. Crappy PSU though, only 18A on the 12V. My components would kill it instantly.

proof-of-concept I would surmise (i.e. the packing case, its on the review circuit)
dynamite PR though

I'm skeptical, especially with the RD-30 on its own PSU. Have you ever measured your system's power consumption?

RD-30 is not in yet... 3 D4's, 15 fans (6 of which draw 6W each), 4 HD's, 2 opticals, Cold Cathodes and a Prescott OC'd to 3.9Ghz with 1.58V pumping through it. I guarantee that PSU would not survive, or more likely, my components would die.

Hopefully you wouldn't need all that with case ;)

18v + 16v

not just 18v

Confusing specs, actually. They list "298W (18A)" total, but 300W would be 25A. I guess you just build a Winchester-based system...

Nik, I think your sig fooled me.

Ahh, good eye, a sure sign I am getting old ;) Yes, the daul 12V is nice, I now must retract my statement... My PSU has a 38A rating on the 12v, and it is almost stressed.

Did anyone friking read how hot that mofsets got? NO? read again 132.8 F that pushing it to the limit. Point is the motherboards are designed to have airflow over them (except maybe VIA MiniITX boards) if you dont have the airflow you risk killing the board.

In my personal opinion thats a POS for that much money.

P.S. they only supply you with the BTX connector on the power supply and even the reviewers ran into problems connecting that to the ATX board.

Yes I did see how hot the PWM gets, not good, but that is at load. I would imagine anyone using that box would not be running SETI or FOLDING 24/7, at least I hope not. For a general purpose box, web surfing, word processing etc it would be fine. But the price will be rediculous.
