Quietiest inline wall socket pump?

Not looking for power here, but quietness.
i've got a via aqua 1300 modded and it's pretty quiet but makes a small humming sound.

Are there any pumps that are totally quiet?

my eheim 1048 is VERY quiet. Cathar recommended it as a silent solution in his pump article also, you might want to read it.

The Eheim 1046 is nearly silent (slight hum and shakes a little bit which could cause noise if it's against a resonant surface). The 1048 is only slightly louder, also shakes a bit (maybe all pumps do to an extent).
I've had luck with the 1046 coupled with a Swiftech 5000 or 6000 water block (neither seems to need much flow).
I have a number of 1046s and 2 1048s in friend's PCs, where AFAIK they're been running 24x7 for, well, years, now. No pump failures - Eheim has a reputation for reliability, which, now that I've a little bit of experience with them, seems to be well deserved.

I have a Danner mag 3 running close to 2 years, but it isn't the quietest pump I own, however it is reliable, once I sealed it up. Its mounted on a wad of sock about 3/4" tall with zip ties holding it in place, and it still hums in my heavy steel antec case.
---BUT---
I also have a maxijet 900 in my other watercooled box, sucking from a 2" pvc res, into a chevette core, and through a dtek spiral block, all with 1/2" tubing, and it is extremely silent. Its to the point where I had to pop the side panel off and feel it to see if its still running. Its mounted using the stock tripod rubber suction cup mount that came in the box. And best of all, it was from a generic pet store for about $20, on sale. Extremely quiet! and small too! much samller than the mag3 And the inlet and outlet are good for 1/2" tubing.

1048 for sure. Yeah the 1046 is probably a bit more quiet, but it is very weak. I could not even hear my 1048, had to touch it to know it was on.

I think that might be a function of how much heat you are moving, how hot it can get, how much air you're moving through how big a radiator - and your "noise floor" - no point in making the pump lots quieter than the next loudest thing...

Etacovda 11-17-2004 02:51 PM

Yep, your harddrives will probably be louder than your pump, in most circumstances...

Best silent solution would be two (or more) 1046's in series I think. A 1250 is considerably louder.

bobkoure 11-18-2004 06:29 AM

Well... there's also the HPPS (AFAICT volume like the 1046 but pressure better than the 1048, quieter than the 1046) but it's 12VDC so I wasn't mentioning it. It might be easier to provide 12V than to put two pumps in series, though.

A well mounted 1250 is as silent as a 1046.
Mine is silent. No hum, no noise, no vibrations to the case.
Only way to know it's running is to put my hand on it.

That's why I installed my Swissflow sensor...:D

CD :)
